Update - Senators' Owner Claims Tampering by NY Rangers
Ottawa Senators' owner Michael Andlauer claims soft tampering by the New York Rangers organization toward the services of Ottawa Senators' captain Brady Tkachuk. Andlauer is differing to the league for a resolution into the allegation.
Late last week, the Ottawa Senators were reputedly in the mix for former New York Rangers' captain Jacob Trouba, in a potential deal that would have included Alexis Lafereniere coming to Ottawa. Larry Brooks of the New York Post has described the Senators' captain, Brady Tkachuk as their "primary target" via trade. Ian Mendes, the vice president of communications for the Senators, has poked at Brooks' post calling it a "whopper." Senators' general manager Steve Staios also outwardly denied Tkachuk leaving town as the team is looking to build around him.
Emily Kaplan reported the Senators did have interest in Trouba's services, along with the Columbus Blue Jackets; Anaheim Ducks; Buffalo Sabres; Detroit Red Wings; Winnipeg Jets; and Vancouver Canucks, but Trouba has been open about not wanting to play in Canada for family reasons.
Trouba going to the Ducks is a win for the Eastern Conference, as the veteran blue liner is out of the conference. Trouba going to the Ducks does open the Rangers with more cap space, so expect rumors involving the Rangers buying to pick up. Hopefully, the Tkachuk leaving Ottawa rumors can die off.
Personally, the move of a Tkachuk can be very costly. Look at what Florida got for acquiring the other one. A Cup. If Brady moves, does that new team win a cup? Tkachuk is the right player for the postseason. That is not a player any manager should move. Brady is the face of the franchise in Ottawa.
Ottawa/Detroit
The Pizza Line Reunion of Jason Spezza, Danny Heatley, and Daniel Alfredsson made their return to Ottawa for a ceremonial faceoff to honor their contributions. The Senators defeated Alfredsson's former Detroit Red Wings by the final score of 2-1 in regulation.
Josh Norris scored both Ottawa goals to have 11 goals on the season. On the opening goal; Brady Tkachuk and Drake Batherson had the assists; the winner had Vatherson and Nick Jensen with 43 seconds remaining in regulation. Alex DeBrincat recorded his 11th of the season for Detroit from JT Compher and former Senator Vladimir Tarasenko.
Ottawa/Nashville
The Ottawa Senators defeat the struggling Nashville Predators by the final score of 3-1.
Jacob Bernard-Docker; Claude Giroux; and Nick Cousins had the Senators' goals; Fedor Svechkov had the lone Nashville goal with a minute and 57 seconds left from a shutout.
Ottawa/NY Isles
Ilya Sorokin backstops the New York Islanders to a 4-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators in the second half of the Ottawa back-to-back.
Adam Gaudette and Josh Norris recorded the Senators' goals.
Andres Lee, Kyle McLean, Kyle Palmieri, and Bo Horvat scored the New York goals.
Four Nations Selections
The Ottawa Senators have two skaters representing two different nations for the upcoming Four Nations tournament overseas and in Boston/Montreal in February 2025.
Goalie Linus Ullmark with Daniel Alfredsson will represent Team Sweden.
Brady Tkachuk will represent Team USA. Sanderson and Batherson did not make the American roster, but could get calls depending on injuries.
No Senators will represent Canada or Finland. Chabot and Giroux did not make Canada.
