The Habs travelled to Boston without Josh Anderson who crashed into the Lightning’s empty net in the last minute of Tuesday night’s game with the generous help of Mikhail Sergachev and we’ve yet to have an update on his status but we know he won’t play tonight. The Habs will be getting some reinforcement though as Jake Evans will play his first game since a knee injury took him out on January 14.
Judging by the lines at morning skate, Suzuki will be flanked by Harvey-Pinard and Hoffman, Dach will be back centering the 2nd line with Drouin and Gurianov, Evans will return as the 3rd line pivot with Pitlick and Gallagher while Tierney will man the fourth line between Pezzetta and Belzile. Nice to see Dach back at center, especially since this season has always been about development and that’s where the organization sees him long term.
On the blue line, Chris Wideman missed the morning skate as he was receiving treatment and Jordan Harris filled in for him on the third pairing but he’s not yet ready to return, meaning that Wideman should be in uniform. Looks like Matheson will be paired with Savard, Kovacevic with Barron and Edmundson with Wideman.
In net, Jake Allen will be back in after Samuel Montembeault had started the last 4 games. Allen will be hoping to bounce back as the month of March has been hard for him. It won’t be an easy task though as the Bruins have a powerful attack, second only to the Edmonton Oilers having scored 265 goals on the season. The Bruins have the best differential though, having scored 114 goals more than they’ve given, hardly surprising since their tandem of Jeremy Swayman and Linus Ullmark has got excellent numbers, both have a save percentage above .920. Tonight, Swayman will be the one to face the Habs.
Meanwhile, this afternoon when Lane Hutson scored Boston University’s first goal, he became the most prolific freshmen defenseman in the NCAA history. After his last game, he tied Brian Leetch’s 47 points record season having played one less game, now, he’s played the same number of games and he broke Leetch’s record. His season isn’t over though as BU beat Western Michigan by a score of 5-1 and Hutson will have another chance to add to his account.
