Detroit faced St. Louis just 2 days ago. They found a win via the shootout and contributions from Zadina and Chiasson each with a goal and Raymond with a deciding shootout tally.

Game Summary:
Within 2 minutes of the first period, Detroit had a 2-0 lead. St. Louis got 1 back, then scored 3 unanswered in the second. Detroit got a late goal from Chiasson who proved he can do more than score on the power play. Edvinsson has a mantle piece, but the entire team has to have a sour taste after this one.

The word “disjointed” comes to mind right now. Something broke on this team and the play feels broken and sporadic. I don’t know if it’s missing players that left, or the reality of missing the post season again. Maybe it’s something else altogether. There is certainly “heavy” changes going on in just about every industry. Banks, Crypto, Entertainment, Sports, just pick a field and you’ll see something people are stressed about.

There are a few categories of players out there. Those who know they have a job next year and look deflated. Players who are auditioning for next year and hope for the best. There may also be players who know already that they won’t be back. Whatever is in each player’s head, there just seems to be no continuity for too many stretches. There are hopeful moments. Looking at Seider and Edvinsson is pretty exciting at times. Those are some big players who can skate. I hope Chiasson gets a shot, and I like what Perron can bring to the table. Something has to change for this team to at least have a decent last few games.

It’s just tough to watch right now. This season had some good moments. However, the team on paper in late July never hit the ice. Injuries, surgeries and other issues seemed to take over. It gave Berggren a chance to play. Walman has also been a nice surprise. But for whatever reason, the team is back to “deflate mode” when things go south. They did their level best in the third to try and come back but it was just too far gone. Hopefully we’ll see a couple more glimmers of hope for the future before the season winds down.

First Period Red Wings goals:

Detroit opened the scoring just 38 seconds in with a tip in goal from Matt Luff featuring assists from Veleno and Edvinsson’s first NHL point. His first in the NHL with assists from Oesterle and Zadina

Soon after (at 1:28) Jake Walman took a pass from David Perron for the second goal of the game (Kubalik w 2nd assist) as 2 former Blues got on the board. 2-0 DET
