Bertuzzi might be someone.

Jost might be available. I'd see if 3lc between some vets might help him.

It would be a smart idea but if the owner is yelling fix it now, then it limits your options.

After last week's trades, I am sort of hoping for a strong finish. I think Myers played his best game and if they can get him to play using his size to finish the season then you can trade him as a positive asset instead of maybe having to add in a trade.

Same goes for Boeser. It would be nice if he has a strong finish and you can move him without retaining salary.

You mentioned the other day about how the D is now exiting the zone and playing much better now that Schenn Stillman and OEL are gone. This is big for me. I like looking at Briesbois and other cheaper players that slide in and do an effective job.

- VANTEL

Speaking on the defence. I don't know if going with Wolanin and Brisebois is the answer. I doubt Hughes wants to play 30 minutes a night. Schenn wasn't really the problem more just how bad Stillman and OEL were.

Very smart. Trade a potential cost-controlled D man, for one you'll have to up huge in a couple seasons. Good thing they have all that cap flexibility
- NewYorkNuck

Have you done the cap math?

I had a great conversation with Canucks Assistant General Manager Ryan Johnson about the AHL team and some NCAA free agents this morning.

He spoke highly of the work that Arshdeep Bains, Linus Karlsson, Nils Hรถglander, Aidan McDonough and Jeremy Colliton have done this season.

"I give Nils and our coaching staff credit. They've really harped on

- manvanfan[Nils] for his defence, puck management, [and his] wall play. That's what's important, not just production."

"If Nils buys into doing these things within a team structure, he will get opportunities to produce and we're seeing that with him now. I give him credit, he's bought into that and working on it and doing video work all the time."

"We knew it wasn't going to be a week to 10 days. These are habits that you have to do consistently for a long time and it just becomes second nature to you. And I think that's what we're starting to see with Nils."

RJ on Bains

"I'll be honest, I didn't think it would happen this quickly. [Bains'] hockey sense is elite of the elite."

"He dominated the Western League and really made it look easy. Then, to be able to come into training camp, come to Abbotsford and basically throw that all out the window. You see a lot of guys come in and say, 'I got this all figured out. I got I know what I'm doing.'"

"But we challenged him in ways. We said 'you're going to find ways to produce but it's going to be through a method that you completely didn't have to do for four years in the Western League'. We said that we're kind of going strip you down and build your back up as a pro."

"From day one, he bought into that challenge and he turned himself into the first unit penalty killer. His puck management has improved, and his pace has improved. He's bought in and it shows you the maturity and we're extremely excited about him."

Mgmt has turned the farm into a real development ground. ๐Ÿ‘

I understand that we as taxpayers subsidize HC etc, my point is, just because of that why shouldn't the nhl be treating Canadian leagues the same as other top producing leagues?
- Reubenkincade

Because it's run completely differently.

In the article you posted it said that Canada does get money though.

This should be changed to 3 years. or have a clause that allows 1st rounders to play in the AHL.
- Retinalz

That would only screw junior leagues. Change the draft & make it back to 19yr olds.

I would like Briesbois and Burroughs back as the 7/8.

I will concede that Bear will be back as PA pretty much said on Friday that they are looking to extend him. So they need to fill in three more. Maybe a cheap guy like Wolanin and two middle of the road guys. One left and one right side.

@Reuby

I do think they will spend money this year on a real 3C. I think they will target a RHC that can put up about 15 goals or more that is a two-way player and can win a good percentage of faceoffs.

Fully agree about if you have Dries as a third line man then you are not a very good team.

- VANTEL

Sounds nice but at what price & there isnโ€™t exactly lots of those to go around.

Dries has 9 goals in 43 games with the Canucks, so about 18 goals over the course of a season, and is a hair under 50% in the dot this year (49.5%). Not as terrible as people think. Since he's cheap, and the Canucks have no real cap room as it stands, I can see him being on the roster next year. Maybe not 3C, but pushing that.
- NewYorkNuck

So it would cost more for maybe marginal upgrade but no guarantees. Use Dries at 726k & hunt & spend on D for the time being.

I agree about the numbers and the play. He is a decent player that gives the team a good bang for the buck. I do think they are going to upgrade though.
- VANTEL

We need bang for the buck as much as possible like ELCโ€™s give. Need time to offload cap to get it better allocated & better value.

That is what a normal team would do. The Chipmunk was the most active GM in this years trade season. I expect that to continue. FA is not one to accept no playoffs and JR is not noted for his build through the draft style. I think Canucks will be the most active team again seeing they want to make the biggest jump next year.

Going from bottom 7 to wining a round in the playoffs is a very difficult task.

Dhaliwal saying Canucks have interest in going after Gavrikov and Barbashev, in the off-season.

Big game tonight.

6-3 Canucks.

Beauvillier with a pair, Podkolzin, Brisebois, Brock and Studnicka with the other goals.

TBF, the CHL gets money from the government and HC and really doesn't need money from the NHL for player development. Not to mention the CHL has more teams than any other league not named the NHL.

CHL does have more teams than the NHL.

Comes down to what they plan to do with OEL pretty well.

Brisebois Myers through a very short 54.2 minutes have been acceptable 50% for their pairing. Same with Wolanin and Burroughs.

If OEL can come back to half decent respectable neighbourhood. Him and Bear should be able to play at 50%.

Hughes Hronek
OEL Bear
Brisebois Myers
Wolanin Burroughs

I don't like it. It could be acceptable if OEL doesn't poop the bed like this year.

Going on a heater to finish the years ups player value. Cost is marginal loss in how high the draft picks will be.

It is acceptable but will not win you a round of the playoffs.

I am just going off what the GM said. I think they are going to have a very active summer. Trading two top 40 picks and bringing back almost entirely the same D that got you bottom seven in the league is very disturbing. I think big changes will happen.

Was looking at comparables and such for his next contract. Came across Detroit signing Andrew Copp.

Copp 5 year deal at 5.625. 33 points in 63 games this season.

A half a PPG winger is gonna cost you around 5M a season now a days

Just a much smarter idea to grow your own players

- manvanfan

Boeser is around 0.75ppg, does that mean his contract is actually fair market value?
