Was looking at comparables and such for his next contract. Came across Detroit signing Andrew Copp.

Copp 5 year deal at 5.625. 33 points in 63 games this season.

A half a PPG winger is gonna cost you around 5M a season now a days

Just a much smarter idea to grow your own players

It so so important to mix in ELC players to help with Cap. That is the real value of Draft pics.

Podkolzin, Kravstov will be cheap. We will probably see Hoglander next year.

Comes down to what they plan to do with OEL pretty well.

Brisebois Myers through a very short 54.2 minutes have been acceptable 50% for their pairing. Same with Wolanin and Burroughs.

If OEL can come back to half decent respectable neighbourhood. Him and Bear should be able to play at 50%.

Hughes Hronek
OEL Bear
Brisebois Myers
Wolanin Burroughs

I don't like it. It could be acceptable if OEL doesn't poop the bed like this year.

- manvanfan

I don’t like it either.

Hughes needs a more traditional defensive D partner that is mobile.

OEL/Hronek more of a fit. Hronek plays his game with OEL more of the compliment. Pricey 2nd pairing but that’s only on paper. OEL needs to work on his knee & be better on speed & changing gears.

Bear better suited on the 3rd pair.

Means Myers is gone at some point.
Who comes in? I’ve said Soucy.

That's not the Canucks way. Overpay or nothing. If we have cap space it will all be spent on a character guy, a real role playing bottom liner who had recent success. We will give him all we have with a ntc. This is the way.

It is acceptable but will not win you a round of the playoffs.

I am just going off what the GM said. I think they are going to have a very active summer. Trading two top 40 picks and bringing back almost entirely the same D that got you bottom seven in the league is very disturbing. I think big changes will happen.

- VANTEL

Yeah won't win you a playoff round. You would basically need to upgrade that middle pair.

OEL has been a massive part of that and extremely poor goaltending. Bear was brought in early on. Could they trade or sign someone that has enough to lift Myers up as OEL did last season? Someone more responsible like Dumoulin or Marcus Pettersson? Ryan Graves is a free agent.

Could lead to whoever is playing better that night gets the minutes from 3 pairs.

Playing around with ACGM’s it’s tough to see that. Need 2 wingers gone or Hog or Pod are 4th liners.

Hronek isn't def capable of helping out Hughes in the def end. I see him second pair. People in the wings forum said he gets caved at times against top lines. Not sure we want to give him the top line pairing in his contract year anyways

The solution that offers the best options are 2 fold. Myers is gone & 1 of Hughes or OEL adjusts & plays RSD. It allows us to go after a LHD which there is more of. Even top 4 type of calibre say Gavrikov. Soucy imo is bottom 6 but his versatility offers options. I don’t want him in the 1st pair but really is not much out there. Klingberg? NOPE

This is what I am getting at.

Upgrade the middle.

I'm just going to post this in the Athletic Blog in the Canuck forums...in case you wanted to read it.

Why Filip Hronek will give the Canucks’ blue line a massive upgrade.

Still need a def RHD.... Myers doesn't work with Hughes and your other options are Bear and Hronek.

Offers up lots of our ideas & some more…

https://canucksarmy.com/n...ce-as-soon-as-next-season

Myers is the 1st domino in my books. Bear isn’t getting 4m or so. OEL potential buyout but prefer next year. Last option if possible is trade & retain say 2.5m ish.

Hughes Soucy
Gavrikov Hronek
??? ??? (Cheap)

Myers traded after 5m bonus paid.
Neutral value or better hopefully.
OEL if bought out as Vantel wishes.
Ideally but expensive & still requires winger(s) traded.

I try to stay out of that forum. I went in there once for two minutes and you can vision Abe Simpson walking into the bar, putting his hat on the rack, doing a circle and walking out.

But thanks for the link. I don't really care what Dayal says but it is fun giving Lefty a hard time.
