- Canada Cup

Broke my tv that day. I was so fed up with the Leafs, I remember it like yesterday.

So apparently James Reimer is refusing to wear a Pride jersey tonight.

To be clear, I believe he is well within his rights to do so.

And I’m well within my rights to lose all respect for him.

- Atomic Wedgie

Isn't James very religious?

I remember back in the day people would say its why he is so good with handling the Toronto media

(frank), Proverov grew up in a corrupt country, what's Reimer's excuse?

Did not say he was a sure thing.

And I don't think the voters, scouts, ect think they are never wrong. Just projecting a player that has a really damn good set of stats and play in front of them?

If you don't like a Leaf player getting hype thats fine, you do not have to. But the stats and respectable voices are right in front of your eyes.

Don't let Leaf anxiety bring you down, the Leafs are allowed to have good things

- Santo_44

I'm cautiously optimistic. As I mentioned before, I really hope he is our Kreider and all of those scouts and voters are right.

I've played with shiny new toys before and been told that they are bestest things ever.

Show me, Mr. Knies. Make me a be-leafer!

Reimer is a devout Christian. According to the bible homosexuality is considered an abomination.

Exactly. An nhl player is win with a second round pick. If he’s more than that, even better.

Some of you guys turned into complete bumholes.

A Leafs prospect doing well with his club and EVERYONE who thinks he might be good for the Leafs in the future should STFU?!?!?

FFS, what is wrong with these boards lately.

Hey Santo, hope you're right. But I'm sure MJones has scouted Knies and watched every single game to form the 100% "I'm right" and "you're wrong" opinion.

(Which BTW runs counter to every (frank)ing stat board, scout, hockey talking head and just about every one else who has a KNOWLEDGEABLE opinion about the kid.)

Personally I haven't watched him play at all except a few highlights so I wouldn't know either way.

- underhill14

I love it. You can't be skeptical on here without being called an bumhole.

It's not like I've been an aggressive Richard about my take on Knies. I'm not calling other people bumholes for being super hyped about this kid. And I get that people are excited to see if Matt can come in and be Kreider 2.0 (or better even!). But I'm not as enthusiastic about a 20 year old NCAA player who has put up solid points on easily the best line in collegiate hockey joining a top tier contending team and contributing meaningfully.

I've been wrong before (many times) and I hope everyone here can dunk on me when he wins the Conn Smythe, but losing your poop because someone isn't as in love as the new shiny toy is silly.

Some religious leaders use the bible to support their personal and political opposition to abortion, just like the leader of the church that Povorov belongs to uses the bible to support his view that Ukraine should be wiped off the earth.

I think some of the constant negativity just gets to people sometimes. How many times have we been enjoying a win here such as that one against the Oilers and someone poops all over it with “ it doesn’t mean a thing until we do it in the playoffs “?

I don't see any Leaf fan guaranteeing anything

Excitement for him being put in the lineup to prove himself is not guaranteeing anything

- Santo_44

And I don’t even see him being on the roster for a single game until he earns it at least at a practice.

That’s where you and I differ. You’re convinced he’ll get an opportunity no matter what and I am not.

Hope you’re right, but I choose to believe the leafs will only give guys who’ve earned it, even simply in practices, a chance during games.

This^

Leaf anxiety I tell ya, gets the best of some people sometime.

Knies just had a really good set of 2 seasons, and deserves the respect he is going to get coming in here. I also do not see anyone saying he is going to be a superstar. Just people are excited to see what he can do coming in and thats pretty fair if you ask me.

Didn't you female dog out Joel the other day about bringing up mental issues. Anxiety happens to be a mental disorder. You should know that you know everything else.

I usually agree with you and appreciate the work and research you do in your posts...but 95%? huh? That is a load of crap number and you know it.

No one is asking him to come in and with the (frank)ing Conn Smyte.

Just come in and be productive. Score a couple goals, be hard to play against, keep up defensively.

ffs habs fans were labeling Anderson a hero with his 5 goals and 1 assist in 22 games in their run. It is not about being a PPG ultra super human force out there. Just come in and play a good role and everyones happy.

Plenty of GOOD NCAA prospects have came in the league and had success right away. Most don't have the luxury of playing playoffs like a select few have. Greenway, Caufield, Kreider to name a few.

No one is guaranteeing a thing. Just recognizing the work he has put in and he has put himself into a position where he has a chance to make it this offseason. And its pretty obvious Dubas and Keefe do as well.

- Santo_44

Here's where that 95% number comes from: There are presently 304 graduates of the NCAA Hockey who are active in the NHL - whether they are in the AHL like Aaron Dell, or one of the best in the league like Cale Makar.

If I look at the top 40 point producers in terms of points/game all-time out of those 304 players, 8 of them made the jump from the NCAA to the NHL in March and played well. 3 of those 40 played in playoff games - Kreider, Caulfield and Makar.

Other star players like Johnny Gaudreau, Jack Eichel, Kyle Connor, Jake Guentzel, Quinn Hughes, Jonathan Toews, Blake Wheeler, Adam Fox, Joe Pavelski, Brock Boeser, Trevor Zegras, Phil Kessel, Clayton Keller, Brady Tkachuk, Max Pacioretty, Matthew Beniers, Matt Boldy, Dylan Larkin, Paul Stastny, Zach Parise, T.J. Oshie, Joshua Norris, Nick Schmaltz . . . . and on did not make the NHL directly from the NCAA or play in the playoffs after making an initial debut.

So out of the absolute best players to ever come from the NCAA into the NHL, only 7.5% played a playoff game in their graduation year. If I extrapolate that over the next 260 players - many of whom are barely NHL calibre players, we know that number diminishes drastically.

If anything 95% was being generous.

Yes I know. But the ones who follow the bible to the letter do believe it. I googled it out of curiosity and the bible doesn’t hold back on it’s condemnation of it.
