Then you hire him back with the title of "Special Assistant to the GM" and give him a very specific clearance to only make trades with Peter Chiarelli and nothing else. Then we trade Simon Holmstrom for Mitch Marner and a 2nd round pick

Interesting article, thanks, ses. Not sure I understand what Bailey's saying. Then again, I'm not sure I care. The guy has been pampered by coaches for most of his NHL career. Lambert deserves credit for benching the guy. He (Bailey) is not the future of the team.

I have to agree with you John. I mean no comment.

I have to say I'm surprised no official word on Lou and Lane yet. Is ownership worried about fan reaction? This delay only gives the perception of doubt in the decision to bring them back. Just announce already if Lou and Lane are coming back.

It could be that ownership is still negotiating Lou's deal? And Lou would be the guy to decide about Lane? That's all I've got...

I guess John. God Bless Lou at 80 and he still wants to be involved.

Sure. Not that it will make any difference. They sent Bailey to Bridgeport and it didn't make a difference. They could send him down again and then bench him and it won't make any difference. The only things certain in life are death, taxes and Josh Bailey.

Lane gets an A for effort. Did any other Islander coaches tell Bailey you cannot float all over the ice and avoid contact at all costs? You figure Barry would hate a player like Bailey.

So here's my theory from reading the tea leaves: Lou had unloaded Ladd for significant draft picks and wanted to avoid having to repeat that with Bailey. So he told Barry to keep playing Bailey, because unloading an overpaid AHL/depth player is generally much more expensive than unloading a guy who is playing in the top 9 on an NHL roster. But it didn't work. No teams bit. Apparently, real GMs have access to footage of Isles games. Feeling added pressure this season to make the playoffs, Lou took the wraps off Lane, and said do what you've got to do, Bailey's feelings notwithstanding.

I forget if I smoked those tea leaves before I read them.

He's saying being scratched early and for his thousandth game at home was a sign of things to come as far as being scratched all those games at the end of the season and through the playoffs.

I get that he's bitter, but it's not like he made it a really tough decision by playing lights-out hockey. Either way, judging by this quote and others at the end of the season, I'd say if Lane stays, they have to get rid of Bailey or he's just going to be a black cloud that they don't need in the locker room.

Why does Eklund feel the need to make news out of this. "Poulin and Stacey Announce Their Engagement".

Apparently things may not have gone in the direction that he had hoped as he shut down the comments section pretty quickly.

If that is the life style you choose so be it. It is America and you have the right to choose they way you live. But do not push you values on me.

This is a sports blogs not "THE VIEW". Why people feel it necessary to do is beyond me. Listen, if Eklund has not been cancelled for fantasy and unrealistic information he has posted over the years. He sure as heck does not have to be worried about the WOKE agenda. My advice is stick to the bizarre hockey rumors that you drive at your kitchen table where your unnamed source is either your wife or children.

The views and opinions I want here are from you baskets cases after I make arm chair GM trade suggestions.

Bailey has had the unfortunate designation of being a high round draft pick that in the history of Islander drafts, has never materialized to what the fans had hoped. Ownership and management have used him as a pillar of longevity with the organization.

He has been a player thrust into a top six roll, while marred by inconsistency and flashes of brilliance. He has for all intensive purposes been a company guy. His 15 year career with the isles in my opinion has come to end. Age has taken over any hope of him being the player that Snow drafted.

While I understand the Islanders wanting to prove that they are a loyal organization that takes care of its own. He services could be used else where to make room for the future of the organization. They have allowed him to reach 1,000 games. He does not deserve the right to eclipse Potvin or Trots.

It is time to move on.

I guess I kind of figured that. But it's still a little hard to understand. He's not the first guy in the history of hockey to be scratched because the coach thought he was underperforming. The hope in scratching the player is that it motivates him to play harder. Bailey seems a tad oblivious about the concept of playing with more intensity.

Bailey wants coaches to let him continue to float all over the ice and avoid contact. I have no respect for this type of player.

eh women's hockey is pretty great, and a very large number of the players happen to be lesbians.

the ones who aren't though....😍

When you put a spotlight on something you’re calling attention to something like, “isn’t that cute”. Two chicks are getting married great. Who cares? Whatever makes them happy or anyone else for that matter. But when you call attention to it to me it makes it abnormal which is exactly the types like Ek do to make themselves feel morally superior to others. Meanwhile back in reality they are the bigots.

Just like when some rich liberal invented the term Latinx to make themselves feel better.

I have nothing against women's hockey. I enjoy watching Canada and USA battle. They are very intense battles. Why do we need to know about who is marrying who? What does it have to do with hockey? Unless the two women are starting a hockey cloning factory. It is just Eklund unnecessarily putting out his rainbow flag. I have seen one woman poster since I started coming to this site.

THE HOCKEY NEWS: Max Miller noted that trade rumors are starting to swirl about Kevin Labanc. The San Jose Sharks winger is a year away from unrestricted free-agent eligibility. With the club carrying so many high-salaried players with no-trade/no-movement clauses (Erik Karlsson, Logan Couture, Tomas Hertl), the 27-year-old Labanc could become a prime cost-cutting trade candidate.

Given Labanc’s offensive struggles since his career-best 56-point performance in 2018-19, Miller doesn’t expect the Sharks would get much in return for him. Maybe a team seeking some offensive depth such as the New York Islanders might take a chance on him.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Speculation over whether the Sharks will trade Karlsson has dominated the Sharks rumor mill. Nevertheless, we can’t rule out the possibility that GM Mike Grier can find a taker for Labanc. Given his salary and with just a year left on Labanc’s contract, Grier might be more receptive to retaining part of his cap hit to facilitate a trade than he would for Karlsson.

my opinion is not interested. he is more of what we have already.

Isles fans (not implying that's you) getting frustrated with Bailey because of where he was drafted is a little silly, especially 15 years after he was drafted. Not to mention basically everyone drafted around him turned out to be garbage, until you got to Karlsson at 15 who a lot of people passed on and I won't kill the team for not drafting. That whole first round was largely unimpressive outside of three of the top four picks, Bailey, Karlsson, and Eberle.

For me, it’s the fact Bailey plays like he is 140 pounds when he is over 200 pounds and is a strong guy.

Yeah I'm not absolving him of criticism, there's plenty of it to be had. But his draft position is a big part of why I think a lot of people can't stand him. If he were a third round pick it wouldn't seem like as big a deal as an 8th overall pick (that we traded back twice for)

I just focus on the fact Bailey had the skill and strength to be a better player. It’s the lack of desire that hurt Bailey. Bailey wants to make a lot of money and keep playing as long as he does not have to take hard checks or strain himself.
