Great background.

I don't believe I had read a comment about his character. The concern from the media who cover the Leafs was questioning a conflict of interest between the ref and Leafs coach... and the corresponding record.

If there's a possibility of some seeming controversy there (and I'm not saying that there is).. why would NHL take the chance and assign him those games when there are other options? Is that simply Bettman's arrogance?

Another Maple Leaf fool. Trying to lay blame for your teams shortcomings. What about the other games the Leafs lost over those years? Was it those other referees fault also? Did they all gather together at Wes's house and agree to stick it to Keefe. And if I remember correctly, didn't mike Babcock coach some of those games? Conflict of interest? There is not conflict of interest except in your feeble minds.

Macaulay is the best in the nhl. But it is sports entertainment. It’s like calling out a wwe ref. Misdirected, should be the NHL itself that is called into question.

It's understandable that you would leap to protect McCauley. Questioning his impartiality is quite legitimate. Were you aware that he has officiated 10 Leaf playoff games? Were you also aware that the Leafs record in playoff games in which McCauley officiated is 0 and 10? Were you also aware that in the Florida series, a team that had 3 players among the top 20 penalty minute leaders in 2022-23 had 0 (ZERO!!!!!!) Penalty minutes in a game in which McCauley officiated. There is absolutely no accountability in the NHL for officials or the department of safety. The evidence is very strong and clear.

Questioning his impartiality is quite ridiculous. Wes McCauley doesn't care one iota which team wins a game. His late father, legendary referee John McCauley, didn't care which team won.

The Leafs are 0-10 in playoff games McCauley has reffed for two reasons: 1) They deserved to lose most of those games, 2) In a few of them, a bounce went against them. That's not to say there haven't been some bad calls that figured in an outcome. That happens to every team. Referees are human, too.

There are many reasons why the Leafs haven't played in a single Stanley Cup Final since 1967. Wes McCauley is not one of them.

It's easier to blame the Refs than the soft serve game they play come playoff time.

Impartiality is impossible to determine, therefore questioning it is absolutely reasonable. Impartiality much the same as intent is unknown to the observer. For example Bunting was suspended for three games by Parros for an elbow to Cernak. Parros would have determined that there was intent. I did not disagree with the call. Fast forward to the Vegas series against the Oilers. Pietrangelo delivers an absolutely viscious slash to Draisaitl and gets a single game. One version would be that Pietrangelo did not intend to hurt Draisaitl and that it was unintentional and only warranted a minor suspension. For me it was clear that Pietrangelo should have received at least a 5 or 6 game suspension. I absolutely question Wes McCauley's impartiality here, what happened to his father - at the hands of a crazed NYR fan was disgraceful, that said IMO Wes McCauley should never ref another Leaf playoff game simply because there are doubts about his impartiality and his relationship with Frost - who is banned from hockey for life - and only got a job using a fake name in California.

With respect to the Leafs not being in the Stanley Cup final since 1967, this is an old and tiresome attempt at trolling. Leafs have been a very good team for 5 or 6 years now. If you are looking for a team that is a tire fire, look no farther that the Flyers. Idiotic contracts for marginal NHL players like Hayes and Couturier who are over 30. They are a truly awful team and will be awful for many years.
