I feel like a better game would be naming ALL the teams in a worse situation than the Sens

By finishing last overall, and having their AHL team crap the bed in the playoffs, clearly this puts the leafs in a worse situation, at this time.

The reward for this is picking higher in the entry draft, than the Senators.

How was Binghamton's playoff run?

Or Ottawa's, for that matter?

Definitely the Canucks

Ottawa at least has Karlsson. He's arguably the best in the league at his position

Ottawa doesn't have the funds to put together a winning team so long as Melnyk is around.

Vancouver has Benning.

It's a tough call.

Benning is just going to fill their cap space with terrible contracts anyway though

When has trading skill away for toughness ever been a bad idea?

Well the Sens are fighting back by adding Phaneuf.

Funny, at his position, I'd actually say he's one of the worst in the league.

Did you know that the Sens got scored on at a rate of something like the 9th best in the league, with Karlsson not on the ice, at even strength. WITH him on the ice, they were scored on at a higher rate than any other team in the league. From top 10, to by far the worst, defensively.

My fault. He's actually the worst. You're right

Karlsson is likely the best defenseman in the league at exiting the defensive zone and entering the offensive zone successfully. His ability to defend is pretty average but with how the game is played now that's not even a big deal.

It's the same reason why Gardiner in Toronto isn't poop like a lot of Leafs fans claim. He can't defend but he can drive possession. Difference is Karlsson is exponentially better at that than Gardiner and pretty much any other defenseman in the league.

SENS and it's not close

Yeah, this is true. Taking a team from 49.4% possession to 49.6% possession is far more important than causing goals to go in at a much higher rate when the opposition has the puck for that 50.4%.

I'm sorry, did I or any other Sens fan give you the impression that this was the year the B Sens were going all the way to the Calder Cup, like many leaf fans were doing this past season?

I am confident that Phaneuf is going to get a lot of credit this year for the Sens playing a far stronger defensive game. Ceci/Phaneuf will take some pressure off of Karlsson/Methot. Not sure that Phaneuf will have the impact of Kessel in leading Pittsburg in their Stanley Cup run, but he will have a very good year. The Phaneuf deal was a shrewd move by Ottawa. Hard to believe the Leafs took back more than $10.5m in salary as well.

After the season the Marlies had, most people thought they would go all the way. And despite falling short it was still a fantastic season for the farm team. Goaltending was their downfall but the team had a great season.

jfc .. Phanuef is not very good at all defensivly ...this has to be a troll job.
the leafs unloaded 35 million of very average player for 1 year of cap for a few players...this was a huge win for the leafs

Colin Greening will probably have a bigger impact on the leafs than Dion will with the Sens.

In fairness, the Sens were the last place team in the league defensively. Won't be hard to improve when all you can do is go up and not down.

Last place team defensively. Among the top offensively. Looking to Phaneuf to solve the defensive woes. Thinking they stole him from another team. Finishing 10th or 11th in the conference. Does that not sounds like exactly where the Leafs were 2-3 years ago?

Do you see any graduates from the AHL team, making the leafs roster next season?
