What if he shows in pre-season that he is capable of being effective in the NHL. Don't you have to at least give him his 9 games?
- Aetherial

That is a possibility, but pre-season games are practically meaningless as a way to assess how a player is doing vs NHLers, it's just not the same as regular season games, or playoff games for that matter....................... but the fact that they signed Oduya, and brought their compliment of NHL defencemen, one one way contracts, up to seven, signals to me that they already have seen enough of Chabot to know he needs work on some parts of his game.

So for however long that takes, they're going to take it slower with him, than they did with Lazar........ and prospect that they rushed into the NHL, and when given the chance to leave him down in the AHL, last season, did not and pretty much had to get rid of him.

I hope they've learned from that, and send Chabot down, because they can, and let him play himself onto the NHL roster.

You must be a glutton for punishment.

Their performance predicts a massive decline. Keep up your summer talk, though!

Gonna be hilarious come December when Ottawa has 7 wins.

makes sense.

though management seems to be hyping him to the fanbase; and the sheeple like spatso are eating it up.

seems like they are setting him up to be in a position to fail.

So a teams management should downplay and berate prospects in their system, and set the bar so low that when they do play in the NHL they exceed all expectations?

Is this what the leafs management did last summer when they knew their roster was going to have a lot of rookies?

I must have missed those quotes, making the leaf prospects seem unlikely to make an impact on the leafs NHL rosters..................... can you post the links?

They still have a few good players and karlson will help them win some games.

Going to be another finish in the 7-11 range in the EC.

Though with all the 1 goal wins, poor shoot metrics and nothing done to improve an aging roster, seems more likely than not that they’ll be in the 10-11 spot in the conference.

leafs management gave no indication who was going to make the roster last year... and that they'd be willing to roll with 7-8 rookies. the expectation was that veterans like laich, greening & michalek etc. would get nhl spots over some of the rookies.

the rookies beat those guys out for spots at camp.

I think it is "likely" that he gets sent down, but he could also be up fairly quickly from injuries, or if the Sens stumble out of the gate. I think the Sens have to be in Win-now mode, so if he is one of your best 7 in the organization, he might stick.

yeah, I don't like the hyping from management either. I question some of the Leafs moves and draft picks in the last couple years but I like that they made it pretty clear hat Liljegren will be in the A or Sweden next year... and the other signings they made before the off-season, and the guys who spent last year in the A, pretty much guarantee that we won't see Liljegren for at least a year, and I would suspect more than a year.

right - and the leafs aren't hyping liljegren up about being the saviour or the next big thing. they'll allow him to develop at his own pace and bring him up when he's earned it.

though the fact they held the pick and didn't trade it for immediate help tells you a lot about how highly they think of him imo.

The Leafs management did not claim they have 5 NHL ready defensemen in the system, nor did they indicate anything at all about who would play in the NHL.

Marner is the perfect example. This kid won everything there is to win at the junior level. Marner was at least (and I am being very generous to Chabot) as strong a prospect as Chabot. The Leafs never even indicated that he would be in the NHL. They mde no claims and put no pressure on the kid.

If you think something different than that happened, you should find the quotes.

For the past few seasons, whenever an injury happens, and requires a "call up", pretty much every time the player that comes up, is not the player the average fan expects ...... it's is the player that the coaching staff, in the AHL and the GM of the AHL team (Randy Lee I think), determines is the player, playing the best at the time, in the position that is required at the NHL level.

Last year, most fans expected Nick Paul to be called up, whenever a bottom 6 forward was needed .......... but he never was, even though he was called up the previous season and played in the final 24 Senator regular season games.

Until Chabot climbs the depth chart, I expect to see Ben Harpur or even Andreas Englund, called up before Chabot, if the Sens are looking for an injury replacement.

I believe the strategy with Chabot will be handed differently than how Lazar was handled ..............

It's not just today. It's every post, everyday.

I don't think Chabot is nearly as good as you guys claim him to be but Ottawa would be fools to trade him.

But there's noway, if he does get traded, that he gets anything close to what spazzo thinks.

I disagree. Karlsson won't be the reason they win games. It'll be all because of their goaltending. They'll only win as many games as their goaltending can get them. Same as last season. And I don't think they're gonna get the same caliber of goaltending next season.

I'd prefer them to finish 1 point out of the playoffs so they have the worst odds of winning the draft lottery but I think they'll finish worse than that.

“He wanted to go to a team that had a chance to win,” Dorion said Monday. “I know for a fact that a team offered him more money and he chose to go to (Ottawa) just for the reason that he felt it was a better fit and they have a better chance to win.”

-TSN

On Oduya signing with Ottawa. No reason to believe that the team he said "no" to was the Leafs. But, we know that Condon did say "no" to the Leafs. Leafs go forward with huge questions in nets and on the blueline.

- spatso

YOure brutal your blinding hate knows no bounds. JUSt make poop up at will. Condon didn't say no to the leafs, he took more years and more $

true. they did get very good goaltending which pushed them through.

but they still have a few good forwards and karlsson is good. so i have a hard time seeing them finish bottom 5.

i just think they are a mediocre team that went on a cinderalla run last year.

I was one of the few Sens supporters that advocated for the trade of David Rundblad (Kyle Turris). Last year Taylor Hall was traded for a very good #2 D in Larsson. Love Chabot, he is a number 1, but he cannot displace Karlsson.

Two players that would cause the Sens to rethink their position on Chabot is McKinnon and Draisaitl.
