Quick Hits: May 18, 2024
1) IIHF World Championships: Team USA, featuring Flyers left wing Joel Farabee, will open their preliminary round schedule on Friday with a game against Team Sweden. Flyers goalie Samuel Ersson is one of the three goaltenders on Tre Kronor, along with Minnesota Wild netminder Filip Gustavsson and Wild prospect Jesper Wallstedt. Game time is 2:20 p.m. EDT.
2) OHL Final: In Game 1 of the Ontario Hockey League Final on Thursday evening, the London Knights skated to an 8-1 blowout victory on home ice against the Oshawa Generals. Flyers blueline prospect Oliver Bonk tallied a pair goals, including one from his favorite spot in the power play bumper. Flyers wing prospect Denver Barkey notched a goal and an assist. Barkey's linemate, Easton Cowan, racked up a five-point game (1g, 4a). Game 2 is on Saturday in London.
3) WHL Final: The Western Hockey League Final gets underway on Friday. Flyers defense prospect Carter Sotheran and the Portland Winterhawks will open the series on the road against the Moose Jaw Warriors.
4) QMJHL Final: The Quebec Maritmes Junior Hockey League Final (Gilles-Courteau Trophy) got underway on Thursday as the Drummondville Voltigeurs skated to a 5-0 road win over the Baie-Comeau Drakkar in Game 1. Flyers wing prospect Alexis Gendron compiled a hat trick to lead the way for Drummondville. He has five goals and six points over the last three games. Game 2 of the series is on Friday night.
5) Flyers Daily: On the latest edition of the Flyers Daily podcast, Jason Myrtetus interviews Flyers defenseman Egor Zamula. Jason also revisits his preseason bold predictions and sees which ones came true, which were close, and which were off the mark.
