Quick Hits: April 15, 2024

1) The Flyers will hold their final regular season practice on Monday at the FTC in Voorhees. The official start time is 11 a.m. EDT. The team is also slated for a 10:30 a.m. morning skate in Voorhees on Tuesday, prior to taking on the Washington Capitals in the regular season finale.

2) On Tuesday afternoon, the Flyers will present the annual team awards. There is a new award being added this year, donated and voted upon by Flyers Alumni Association board of directors. We'll have more tomorrow on the various awards and winners. There will not be an on-ice ceremony but it will be video recorded and posted by the Flyers.

3) Playoff scenario: For the Flyers to earn the final wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs, all of the following must happen:

* The Flyers must defeat Washington on Tuesday, regardless of the outcome of tonight's Capitals vs. Bruins game. However, the outcome of the Washington vs. Boston game will determine whether the Flyers must win in regulation in order to edge out the Capitals on a head-to-head record tiebreaker (Philly is currently 2-1-0 against Washington this season).

* The Penguins, who are currently one point behind the Flyers, must either lose one of their two remaining games in regulation or (depending on the nature of a Flyers' win) lose both in overtime/shootout. The Penguins host the Nashville Predators on Monday and visit the New York Islanders on Wednesday.

* The Red Wings, who are tied in points with the Flyers, must go either 1-1-0 or 0-0-2 in their final two games. The Flyers have already clinched the tiebreaker if both teams finish with 89 points. Detroit finishes with a home-and-home set against Montreal on Monday (home) and Tuesday (away).

4) The Lehigh Valley Phantoms' magic number to clinch the final Calder Cup playoff spot in the Atlantic Division remains at one. On Sunday, the Springfield Thunderbirds overcame a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Providence Bruins by a 4-2 score.

The Phantoms will close out their regular season schedule with a 3-in-3 gauntlet on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. If the Phantoms can gain a win -- or at least a regulation tie -- on the road against the Bridgeport Islanders on Friday, Lehigh Valley is in the playoffs. Alternatively, if Providence earns a victory (of any type) on home ice against Springfield on Friday, the Phantoms will clinch even if they lose in regulation to the Islanders.
