Quick Hits: March 22, 2024

1) The Flyers gained a vital standings point -- but were unable to capture a second -- in a 3-2 overtime road loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night. For a full recap, period-by-period synopses, stats, analysis, highlights and more, see the Postgame 5 on PhiladelphiaFlyers.com: Click here.

2) The Flyers' flight back from Raleigh to Philadelphia was delayed for roughly 30 minutes. It's unlikely that the team would have practiced on Friday regardless (although the practice remained officially on the schedule until the wee hours), due to games on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Tomorrow night, the Flyers will host the Boston Bruins in a 1 p.m. EDT matinee. On Sunday, the Florida Panthers are in town for a 6:00 p.m. EDT match.

3) Flyers Hall of Fame defenseman will be at the Wells Fargo Center tomorrow in the lower level concourse near Section 116. He'll be autographing copies of his autobiography, "Thundermouth". Feel free to stop by before the game or between periods.

4) The Lehigh Valley Phantoms (27-24-8) are idle on Friday evening but will be keeping watch on the game between the Springfield Thunderbirds (27-28-5) and the Charlotte Checkers (31-23-6). With Springfield currently three points behind the Phantoms for the final Calder Cup playoff spot in the Atlantic Division, it'd be better for Ian Laperriere's club if Charlotte wins in regulation.

Next up for the Phantoms: Home games on Saturday against the Bridgeport Islanders (20-33-7) and Sunday against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (31-20-9).

5) Today on PhiladelphiaFlyers.com: In the newest installment of the Friday Forecheck column, I took a look at how Owen Tippett, Joel Farabee, Tyson Foerster, and Morgan Frost have stepped for the club down the stretch drive.

I have alliteratively dubbed Frost, Farabee and Foerster the Flyers "F Troop". That's in honor of my wife's 90-year-old grandfather who is a longtime fan of the namesake mid-1960s sitcom that has lived on for decades in syndication. I've never personally watched an episode but have certainly heard about it at family gatherings from my wife's grandpa and from my late mother-in-law (an aficionado of old movies and TV programs). It'd be neat if that nickname catches on for the three young forwards.
