With one day to go before the opening-night roster must be to the National Hockey League, the Dallas Stars added some depth to their blueline corps and placed three players on waivers in order to be eligible for AHL assignment to the Texas Stars if they clear.

Dallas general manager Jim Nill announced on Monday that the club has acquired defenseman Connor Carrick from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for a conditional draft pick in the 2019 NHL Draft.

The condition: If Carrick plays in 50 or more NHL games in 2018-19, Toronto will receive a sixth-round selection in the 2019 Draft. If he plays in 49 or fewer games, the Maple Leafs will get a seventh-round pick instead.

The 24-year-old Carrick dressed in 47 games for the Maple Leafs last season. He's played 167 NHL regular season games overall. The Washington Capitals originally drafted Carrick in the fifth round (137th overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft. The 5-foot-11 blueliner offers mobility and puck movement in a depth role.

Additionally, the Stars placed 23-year-old left wing Remi Elie, who dressed in 72 games for Dallas last season on waivers on Monday. The club also waived veteran AHL center Justin Dowling and defenseman Joel Hanley (signed by the Stars on July 1 after splitting last season between the Arizona Coyotes and the AHL's Tuscon Roadrunners).
