The Dallas Stars ended the suspense quickly on Saturday night, blasting out to a 4-0 lead over the Buffalo Sabres before the game was even 13 minutes old and never looking back from there. The Stars breezed to a 5-1 victory at the American Airlines Center.

With the win, the Stars raised their overall record to 8-6-0 and their home mark to 5-1-0. The struggling Sabres fell to 4-8-2.

Callup forward Remi Elie (1st goal of the season, 2nd of his NHL career) got the Stars off to a lead at 3:09 of the first period. By the end of the opening stanza, Radek Faksa (3rd) and Stephen Johns (2nd) brought some additional much-welcomed secondary scoring with Gemel Smith assisting on both goals.

The lead grew to 4-0 at 12:51 with a goal from an expected source: a power play tally by Tyler Seguin.

The Sabres made a push in the second period, outshooting the Stars by an 11-4 margin but could only manage to trade off a mid-period Ryan O'Reilly bleeder off a faceoff win for a late-period Antoine Roussel goal that restored a four-goal margin for Dallas. There was no scoring in the third period.

Kari Lehtonen stopped 27 of 28 shots to earn the win. Robin Lehner started for the Sabres but was pulled after yielding three goals on Dallas' first seven shots to take the loss. Chad Johnson went the rest of the way in relief, stopping 13 of 15 shots.

Dallas converted its lone power play of the game. The Stars went 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.

The Stars return to action on Monday, when they will host the Winnipeg Jets (7-3-3).
