Summary:

For (potentially) a brief moment Detroit is back in the wild card spot with a much needed 3-1 win over the Sabres. An opening goal eruption with a return tally from Buffalo saw all 4 goals scored in the opening session. Raymond created multiple plays on turnovers but cashed in on one early as he intercepted the puck in the neutral zone. Larkin ripped a shot after plenty of puck movement on a power play, and Kane somehow muscled his way through 2 defenders after getting a puck deflected to him from Petry in the neutral zone.

Unfortunately, Detroit does not control their fate as Washington plays later tonight and could be pushed back out by the Caps. Still, as the team heads into the final 5 they remain in the mix. There is still a lot of growth in this team and they will need every bit of it as they contend with the Caps and Penguins as all 3 are looking for a ticket to the same dance.

Larkin continued to push with faceoff success and plenty of on and off ice communication. Seider has gotten more and more adept at blocking shots and Lyon was able to make big saves as needed. It was a good afternoon for Detroit who have extended the opportunity to see a potential post season entry.

Detroit First Period goals:

At 53 seconds, Buffalo had already had some strong D zone presence, but Raymond intercepted a neutral zone pass, skated into the O zone and scored on his strong side from just outside the faceoff dot with a wrist shot to give Detroit an early 1-0 lead.

At 4:24 Kane got ahold of the puck, pushed through two defenseman and squeezed the puck past the goalie’s skate. Petry had broken up a pass in the neutral zone and chipped the puck to #88. 2-0 DET

At 7:37 Larkin ripped home a power play tally after some good cycle work to keep the play alive in the O zone. Perron found Raymond from his spot at the half wall and the captain just ripped the pass as it came to his stick. 3-0 DET
