Summary:

Detroit came out strong to start the game. In the end, they outshot the Caps by nearly 2 to 1 with 42 shots on net. However, in a game they could ill afford to lose that was the end result. There are plenty of criticisms, but in the end the team fell short. Patrick Kane’s goal with 2 seconds left makes the turnover at the end of the 2nd period that had Ovi score with 7 seconds left that much more painful. No OT point, nothing to show for the game that may well be the last chance for Detroit.

It’s overwhelmingly disappointing and difficult to break down. I’ll turn it over to you. It’s fresh and painful, and this felt like a win Detroit really needed to grab. The good side? With almost no time on the clock they put on a net front frenzy. It will now take a perfect record and some luck. Disappointing, clearly not the end of the world, but disappointing.

*hearing that Mo blocked 10 shots in the last game just continues to add to my respect for the young Dman. No problem sacrificing himself and still try to make a play.

Detroit Red Wings Second Period goals:

No second period Detroit goals

Third Period Detroit goals

With just 2 seconds left in the final period Patrick Kane scored Detroit’s lone tally in a 43 shot game. It was a rugby scrum at the net and Kane managed to get the tally. Small comfort, but good to see effort even with the clock running out.

Shots: 42-23 DET
Score: 2-1 WASH
