The Habs had a great game on Tuesday, completely dominating the Ducks in a 5-0 win, but tonight’s opponent will present much more of a challenge. The Rangers have won their last five games and they hold a six point lead over their nearest pursuant in the Metropolitan division.
For the second game in a row, the Canadiens will be facing a team’s back-up, but the Rangers’ back-up is Jonathan Quick, a 38-year-old veteran who’s got an excellent record against the Canadiens. In 12 starts, Quick has got a 7-4-1 record, a 2.15 GAA and a .924 SP. He was however the losing goaltender in early January when the Canadiens beat the Rangers 4-3 in the shootout on a Cole Caufield goal. Samuel Montembeault will be manning Montreal's net.

Fresh off a five-game suspension for a hit to Adam Pelech’s head, Brendan Gallagher should be back in the line-up. This was Gallagher’s first suspension and according to him, it’s unlikely to happen again. The winger is having another challenging season with only eight goals and 16 points to his name on top of having the worst differential on the team at -21.

Captain Nick Suzuki and winger Juraj Slafkovsky will try to keep their respective point streaks going, the center has collected a point in his last eight games while the young Slovak has done so in his last six. Tonight, will be the 640th tilt between the two original six franchises and the Habs hold the winning record at 343-198-94-4, but the Rangers have won six of the last 10 games against the Rags.

The game is scheduled for 7:00 PM and the Canadiens will head home afterwards to take on the Washington Capitals in Montreal on Saturday night.
