Mood Monday — Deadline Reflection

The Columbus Blue Jackets were somewhat busy during the 2024 trade deadline day. The Blue Jackets acquired AHL depth and future draft picks at the cost of the rentals on the main roster.

To NY Rangers — Jack Roslovic (50% salary retained)

To Columbus — conditional 2026 4th round draft pick (Upgrades to a 2026 3rd round pick if Rangers make it to the Stanley Cup Finals and Roslovic plays in 50% of the playoff games.)

To Boston — Andrew Peeke

To Columbus — Jakub Zboril & 2027 3rd round pick (BOS)

To St. Louis — Future Considerations

To Columbus — Malcom Subban

The Blue Jackets are bringing up Trey Fix-Wolansky and opens the first call up to David Jiricek, while saving money now and for years to come. It is unfortunate to see another homegrown defender in Peeke be moved, and have another hometown kid in Jack Roslovic move. Both are now on NHL contenders. This adds to the depth cupboards of top teams while adding to the future and hope there is and will be in Columbus. If I am a fan of the players, great moves. If I’m looking at right now, it’s doom. If I’m looking at Cleveland, I’m hopeful for a deep run.

This week, the Blue Jackets have four games played. They get the Montreal Canadiens on the road on Tuesday; and then a three game home stand for St. Patrick’s weekend, including the Ottawa Senators; San Jose Sharks; and Winnipeg Jets. These games are dog fight for the draft lottery positioning, and the Jets are looking to a deep run with their buys.
