The Toronto Maple Leafs as expected have fired head coach Sheldon Keefe after nearly five years behind the bench. The Leafs latest early exit will bring about some significant changes. It was thought that Brendan Shanahan might be in trouble, but he will be taking part in the end-of-season media availability on Friday.

The names of potential head coach candidates is expected to be wide-ranging and it is not expected that GM Brad Treliving will be making a decision right away. Stanley Cup winner Craig Berube is rumored to be on the shortlist, and Elliotte Friedman said on Thursday that names like Jay Woodcroft and Todd McLellan could get interviews.

The name of Joel Quenneville had been mentioned as a possibility in the weeks leading up to the firing, but interest in the three-time Cup winner would require the league to give the all-clear.
