We wish the absolute best to Mike Augello in his future endeavors. Mike is amazing and we will miss him. We will be adding a new Leafs writer soon..and it could be YOU...The Toronto community here is so strong that I do believe someone here could be taking over..I have had some great luck before finding new writers from within the community. As I have in the past I will post the best here for the Leafs community to consider. Just give me your overall thoughts on something..Berube, Marner, Stollarz, etc. ..Hint...I love unique voices. That means well, thought-out opinions along with game stories... Anyone can tell you who scores....We want opinions.
The Leafs won their third straight last night against a very good Vegas team. The Leafs continue to thrive while their Superstar Matthews continues to fight injury to the point he is now in Germany visiting with a specialist....So no, the Leafs aren't keeping him out of the lineup because they are winning...
However, this really may be a blessing in disguise...
Years ago, in the early Crosby years, the Penguins were having a tough time getting over the hump and a Crosby concussion meant they had to play months without him. During the Crosby-free time, the Penguins had an easier time playing and learning a new defensive style...And that team would eventually get Sid back and go on to great success.
I do believe that the learning curve of what Berube is getting this team to play has been accelerated by the Matthews injury. Auston is an easy guy to sit back and watch play hockey. Not having him has raised the intensity level of many of the players. And brought the room together...It will be fun to see Matthews integrated in.
