The Dallas Stars previously struggling power play exploded for three goals (3-for-5) as the Stars defeated the Boston Bruins, 5-2, at TD Garden in Boston on Thursday evening. Veteran forwards Tyler Seguin and Matt Duchene each had a goal and an assist on the night to lead the way offensively for the Stars.

David Pastrnak (5th goal of the season) put the Bruins ahead, 1-0, at 11:57 of the first period. On the play, Pastrnak was wide open as a trailer and beat Casey DeSmith from the slot after a feed from Matthew Poitras. The sequence started with a turnover by defenseman Matt Dumba.

Duchene (4th goal of the season) equalized the score at 16:20 as the Stars started out behind their own net and went the length of the ice to score. Thomas Harley skating the puck up ice himself and dished to Seguin. After taking a pass from Seguin, Duchene moved across the left circle and wristed a shot past Jeremy Swayman.

In the second period, the Stars outshot the Bruins by a 12-6 margin and struck for three power play tallies -- Jason Robertson (4th), Logan Stankoven (1st) and Tyler Seguin (4th) -- to grab a 4-1 lead.

In the opening minute of the middle stanza, Miro Heiskanen skated down to the half boards and sent the puck to captain Jamie Benn below the goal line. Benn then centered the puck to the slot, where Robertson beat Swayman with a good release.

At 4:57, Stankoven re-directed a Duchene setup for a 3-1 lead. Duchene and Mason Marchment collected the apples. At 8:59, Marchment and Duchesne combined again, this time to create what became Seguin's goal. Seguin went upstairs to convert Marchment's cross-ice feed to make it a 4-1 score.

Nearly two minutes after Seguin's goal, Justin Brazeau notched a power play goal for Boston to narrow the Stars' edge to two goals.

The Bruins made a bit of a push in segments of the third period. DeSmith (25 saves on 27 shots) and company did not allow Boston to reduced the gap to a single goal. Finally, at 17:58, Roope Hintz (4th) iced the win with an empty net goal. Seguin draw the lone assist. In a losing cause, Swayman stopped 23 of 27 shots for Boston.

Dallas' starting lineup on Thursday:

Robertson - Hintz - Stankoven
Marchment - Duchene - Seguin
Benn -Johnston -Dadonov
Back - Steel - Blackwell

Heiskanen - Dumba
