A nice chunk of news for the organization as Edvinsson was one of the defensemen chosen for this year’s AHL Prospect’s team. He is one of the six (voted on by hockey ops and GMs) and all of which had some NHL time. Per the article:

* The team includes AHL Rookie of the Year Logan Stankoven (DAL), as well as Shane Wright (SEA), Jiri Kulich (BUF), Simon Edvinsson (DET), Brandt Clarke (LAK), and Yaroslav Askarov (NSH). Each player appeared in NHL games this season, though Stankoven has become the first to carve out a daily role – recording 22 points across his first 43 NHL games, combined between the regular season and playoffs. His All-Prospect team peers will look to catch up to him with daily lineup spots next season.

Edvinsson was a bit of a surprise get. Going back to his draft, it was a player I really wanted but thought would be off the board. Jim Nill is rumored to have had him as the top defenseman on their internal list. Already a decent sized Dman who can skate well and jump in on a rush or a cycle, the big Swede actually grew 2 inches in the months after his draft. The bit of training camp I was able to see had Seider in Eddy’s ear a lot. Apparently it wasn’t always a pat on the back. Mo seems very comfortable in a leadership role.

Also in the link above, Ottawa isn’t slamming down the phone when asked about pick#7. The problem lies in the ask. It sounds like the team wants at least one goalie in the ilk of John Gibson, Juuse Saros or Linus Ullmark. New Jersey also seems to be willing to part with pick#10 for the right price. It is hard to see Detroit having or being willing to part with the asset(s) either team would want. Never say never, but Nashville has already been “rumored” as being willing to part with Saros if it seems like he’s not interested in doing an extension.

Player movement/availability just seems to be a list that grows by the day. Vancouver may have multiple options, Carolina has a host of free agents but interest in retaining Pesce seems to have changed when the GM situation changed. This may be one of the more active trading summers we’ve seen in some time. There seems to be an appetite for a right side D and an upgrade at the forward position. The top 6 left side could definitely use some love. It would seem at least somewhat sensible to put Raymond up top with Larkin and Debrincat on the 2nd line (fill in your center, probably Compher).

Still holding out hope that a Grand Rapids bound forward will stand out at camp and grab a spot. Danielson and Kasper will be on the radar for certain.
