Full disclosure, I had to miss most of the game for a medical issue. Everyone is fine, but sometimes even a “heart episode” is a nice distraction when things are not going well. What I caught of the 2nd and the shot differential of 29-14 was not the best endorsement to go back over this game. Talbot put up a .940 sv% and gave the team plenty to work with. They did not reciprocate.
It’s a tired feeling going over “what is wrong” with this team. LaLonde’s post game pressers have lost all meaning. No, he’s not out on the ice. However, taking the reins and pulling the team together hasn’t happened. You know my feeling on what one quick adjustment should look like.
It’s become an indefensible “Groundhog’s Day” of sorts. This may be the redo where Bill Murray took the toaster to the bath tub. It’s definitely not the donut shop scene. At least that is a nice distraction.
The office’s commitment to not saying anything to anyone has grown past thin. Someone needs to get in front of the cameras, eat the turd burger and announce that something, anything, is being done to at least address the situation. Instead it’s the “fortress of solitude” with not a word or action to give the fan base (or the team) any indication that ownership or management cares at all about some dignity in the season. Not even a playoff appearance, just some sort of bonded and galvanized stance that says “this isn’t close to good enough, even for a rebuild”.
Of course, Detroit’s shots picked up in the 3rd. Last year’s model of late comebacks to save the day isn’t cutting it. Kane isn’t the player he was when he finally joined the team. Perron has had his own issues in Ottawa, so that’s less of a concern. The loss of Walman and Gostisbehere feels enormous with every outing.
Before a road filled with tirades, it’s your turn. Let me know in the comments what you see and if you see any chance that someone says “enough” and makes a change.
