The Battle of Ontario has arrived. Hey all, this is Ek. Kevin Gibson is off today due to a family obligation. He will be back tomorrow for sure….
If you’ve read me for a while, you know that I am a big believer in playoff matchups: That certain teams have certain team’s number. But in a series, I’m not buying that.
Why would it be different than last year and the years before that?
Two reasons.
First of all Craig Berube doesn’t care about anyone else but his team and he’s got his team thinking the same way. Maybe it took an ex NHL player to get that message through, but I think he’s got it through.
#2. Auston Matthews has rounded into the best two a player in the game. In my opinion he wins the Selke going away.. of course he will always be a force on offense, but now in his own zone and penalty killing his quick stick and reflexes make it virtually impossible to find passing lanes for the attacking team…. I’ve always said he’s the best in the NHL receiving a pass. That his teammates know to just put it near him and he’ll get it. He’s also become one of the best in the NHL at breaking up passes….
#3. Also Anthony Stolarz brings his completely relaxed attitude as well. I got to know him pretty well when he was in Philly and he’s got the perfect personality for a goalie in Toronto.
So yeh…That’s why it’s gonna be different…
My prediction in the series is Toronto in six, however, I believe Ottawa will win one of the first two games for sure if not both… but then the Leafs will overwhelm them.
