Controversy ran supreme as the Columbus Blue Jackets snap their six game losing streak to the New York Islanders in a shootout; 4-3.

Period I

After being called out by head coach Patrick Roy for his lack of physical play, Pierre Engvall opened the scoring for his sixth goal of the regular season from former Jackets’ defender Adam Boqvist and KHL signing Tony DeAngelo.

Pending free agent Kyle Palmieri extended the lead for the home squad for his 22nd of the regular season with the assists going to veteran Bo Horvat and blue liner Ryan Pulock.

New York outshot Columbus 17-6. Islanders won 12 of the 23 faceoffs. Columbus out hit Isles 11-9. Isles block 7 shots to Jackets 6. Jackets had 6 giveaways; Islanders had 3. Islanders had one takeaway; Blue Jackets had none.

Period II

Coming off the Damon Severson trip on Horvat, momentum swung the Jackets way after the near 2-on-1 from Luke Kunin and Mathieu Olivier. Adam Fantilli broke the shutout on Sorokin for his career high 22nd goal of the regular season from defender Dante Fabbro and starter Elvis Merzlikins.



Justin Danforth takes a delayed of game penalty for shooting the puck over the glass. Captain Boone Jenner evened the game shorthanded at two all for his second goal of this shortened season from Sean Monahan. It’s the forward’s seventh career shorthanded goal; the Jackets’ ninth shorthanded goal; and 223rd goal for this season.



Islanders extend the lead on an Andreas Lee goal for his 26th of the season from former Columbus’ draft pick Mike Reilly and Boqvist. The captain’s goal was challenged by the Jackets for goaltender interference and was won. Jackets on the penalty kill going into the third period.

Islanders outshot Blue Jackets 10-5. Columbus won 21 of 28 faceoffs; outhit Isles 22-14; and gave the puck away 8-6. New York had 3 giveaways; Blue Jackets had only one.

Period III

Adam Pelech had an interference minor on Zach Werenski.

Kirll Marchenko evened the game on the slap shot for his 26th goal of the season. His 70th career goal was assisted by Ivan Provorov and Monahan.



Kyle Palmieri has a disallowed deflection goal due to interference with 8.8 seconds left in regulation.

Columbus outshot New York 17-4 in the final 20.

Overtime

No goals on the board through the extra 5.

Horvat miss in round three for the Isles’ loss.

Goaltenders

Ilya Sorokin had 27 saves on 33 shots for a 0.900 save percentage.

Elvis Merzlikins had 30 saves on 33 for a 0.909 save percentage.

Noah Dobson was a team worst -2 in 21:09TOI and has 3 shots on goal.

Kent Johnson had one shot on goal in 16:37TOI. The first rounder had two blocks, a hit, and a giveaway.
