The Cleveland Monsters needed overtime to upset the Toronto Marlies in the only home game in the Land. The final score of the opening game of the North Division round one matchup was 4-3.
Period I
Alex Nylander opened the scoring for his first postseason goal with the Marlies from Nick Abruzzese.
Denton Mateychuk got his first professional postseason goal courtesy of Rocco Grimaldi and Madison Bowey.
Period II
No scoring; Marlies forward Zach Solow had the only minor penalty in the second.
Period III
Guillaume Richard got the Monsters’ first lead of the first postseason four minutes into the third from Luca Del Bel Belluz and my Monsters’ player to watch, Trey Fix-Wolansky.
Luca Pinelli got his first pro goal to extend Cleveland’s lead to two on the powerplay. Stanislav Svozil and Mikael Pyyhita had the helpers.
Alex Steeves got his first of the series to bring the road team in one. My Marlies’ player to watch had helpers from William Villeneuve and Robert Mastrosimmone.
Steeves got his Marlies back in the game by tying it up at three. His second of the evening was helped by Villeneuve and Logan Shaw.
Overtime
Pinelli got his second of the night and the winner from Bowey and Mateychuk.

Dennis Hildeby saved 31 of 35 shots against for a 0.885 save percentage.
