Former Vancouver Canucks head coach Bruce Boudreau has been hired as senior advisor by the OHL's Niagara IceDogs.
Boudreau, 68, expressed clear excitement about joining the IceDogs organization. Here is what the longtime NHL coach had to say:
“I am very proud, happy, and excited to help the Niagara IceDogs in any way I can. The Niagara area will always have a special place in my heart. I look forward to one day celebrating a Memorial Cup with the Niagara IceDogs. Also, would like to thank (IceDogs owners) Darren and Michele (DeDobbelaer) for giving me this opportunity to come back to the OHL.”
Boudreau has not been involved in Ontario junior hockey in almost 50 years. His last connection to it was when he played for the Toronto Marlboros during the 1974-75 season in the Ontario Hockey Association. In junior, he put up excellent offensive totals, posting 152 goals and 365 points in 183 games played.
Boudreau joining the IceDogs is also understandable when noting that his son, Ben, was hired by the club as an associate coach earlier in July. Now the father and son will be working together, and that's simply cool to see.
In 103 games as the Canucks' head coach, Boudreau had a 50-40-13 record before being let go by the club in the middle of the 2022-23 season.
Here's to hoping that Bruce has a great experience with the IceDogs organization. They have landed an excellent figure in the sport, and his plethora of experience should benefit them immensely.
