Canucks Offseason Notes II |

With 2.5 weeks to go until free agency day, there’s really not much to write about on the Canucks front. Especially as Rutherford and Allvin run a tight ship on the leaks front, there’s not much getting out to the press on interests or signings. But a quick rundown of things to get this blog reset:
- The Canucks hired Jason Krog as a skills and skating coach. He will work with both the big and baby Canucks. Krog played 200 games in the NHL, which included a brief stint in Vancouver during 2008-09, as well as 535 games at the AHL level.
- Friedman reported yesterday that the Canucks aren’t likely to sign Lindholm. “I think the Canucks are conceding they won’t be able to do Lindholm,” said Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman on today’s episode of the Jeff Marek Show. “I never want to say never, but as it stands right now, I think they’re moving on and saying ‘Okay, who’s our next trget?'” In my opinion, that’s a positive step as Lindolm is going to get PAID.
- Satiar Shah said he thinks the Canucks will trade Hronek if they don’t get a deal done by the draft. “I’m not going to be as forceful as saying he’s guaranteed to be traded by the draft if he doesn’t sign, but I’d say there’s a really good chance that a trade happens at the draft if he doesn’t sign an extension,” Shah said on Canucks Central on Sportsnet 650.
- There’s chatter around the interwebs that the Canucks are interested in Guentzel (still) and Chatfield.
“I still think it’s too soon to proclaim a winner on this but I do think the Canucks do look at it in a very real way,” said Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman about the Guentzel sweepstakes on the Jeff Marek Show today. “I don’t think it’s easy for them to do… I don’t think it’s impossible.”
“Do I think they’re looking into it? Absolutely, absolutely I do. Look, it’s Rutherford, man; he’s aggressive; of course he’s going to look into it.”
Dhaliwal reported on the Chatfield interest. “If Jalen Chatfield hits July 1, I believe the Vancouver Canucks will show interest in him,” Dhaliwal said. “The Canucks signed Chatfield out of the OHL back in 2017. He spent three years in Utica and played 18 games in 2020, but the Canucks let him go because it wasn’t working out under Travis Green. Chatfield is a right-shot defenceman and is going to have a lot of interest on July 1, including from the Canucks, although Carolina is trying hard to re-sign him right now.”
Other than that, there’s just a lot of fluff rumours kicking around and speculation as to who will resign for what. Until we start to get some more solid information, sit back and relax and enjoy how the Stanley Cup Finals are unfolding!
