I thought this would be interesting today.
I’ve been on the phone constantly all week. I have to get my rumor chart up and there’s so many variables. And I also just checked in with a bunch of people who have been away during the break. The funniest thing was yesterday when almost every source I talked to said something to the effect of, “That Sam Ersson….pretty good… Flyers finally have a goalie.’
When I drive around, I listen to SiriusXM NHL channel…. It’s funny this whole year whenever the Flyers goaltending was mentioned what you would hear was. “ I don’t even know if I could name the flyers goalie right now.” Basically, the rest of the NHL just saw three different goalies playing, not particularly well, and some would say when you have three goals you basically have no goalies…
I can’t help but route for Sam Ersson. He reminds me so much of my favorite goalie of all time; Pelle Lindbergh. It goes far beyond the Swedish stuff. Just his attitude, demeanor, and even certain movements he makes on the ice are very reminiscent of#31. Like the way he swallows up rebounds and gets all compact…Pelle did that.
Is he the answer to the Flyers future goaltending? I wouldn’t go that far yet, but he’s beat the odds before… he wasn’t supposed to be the flyer starter… he wasn’t even supposed to be on the Swedish team, and yet he ended up having one of the best performances in the tournament…
