Wrap: Hellish Second Period Proves Fatal in 6-4 Loss in Seattle
Poor goaltending by Ivan Fedotov and a disastrous second period by the entire team resulted in a 6-4 loss for the Philadelphia Flyers against the Seattle Kraken on Sunday. Three goals by Seattle in the final 5:03 of the second period -- including a pair in an eight-second span with just over two minutes left on the period clock -- turned the score from a 2-2 tie into a 5-2 Seattle lead.
Even before that, however, the Flyers played with fire throughout the second period. It finally caught up to them. Fedotov, who allowed five goals on 24 shots, should have been able to stop three of the goals. Two were trackable low shots through the five hole from high in the zone with Fedotov too deep in his net. He also paid the price for a bad rebound on an initial shot that goalies routinely corral and freeze against their chest.
The Flyers made a third period push, drawing back with 5-4 but an Oliver Bjorkstrand breakaway goal sealed the win for Seattle. Jared McCann (1g, 2a), Jordan Eberle (1g, 1a), Shane Wright (1g, 1a), Brandon Montour (PPG) and Eeli Tolvanen (1g) led the way offensive for the Kraken. Goalie Philipp Grubauer stopped 19 of 23 shots to pick up the win.
Thursday night's terrible second period and Fedotov's struggles throughout his 40 minutes in goal overshadowed a three-point game (2g, 1a) for Scott Laughton. The Flyers also got a goal apiece from defensemen Cam York and Jamie Drysdale (PPG). Samuel Ersson finished up the game in net, making four saves on five shots.

The Flyers are staying overnight in Seattle. On Friday, the team will be traveling for much of the day as they return to Philadelphia for the home opener the next night against the Vancouver Canucks.
