The Rangers, on playoff life support, face the Ducks tonight and Sharks tomorrow. Anyone who thinks either game will be a walk in the park, even if New York was playing well, has not been watching the two California teams. Both squads are loaded with good young talent who have started to coalesce of late, earning several wins. Augment that with how the Blueshirts have looked recently and you have.a possible recipe for disaster.

Possible lines against Anaheim:
Lafreniere-Miller-Brodzinski
Panarin-Trocheck-Othmann
Kreider-Zibanejad-Cuylle
Berard-Carrick-Aube-Kubel

Miller-Borgen
Soucy-Fox
Vaakanainen-Schneider

Shesterkin
Quick

Scratches: Rempe (upper body, week-to-week) Parsinnen,Jones, de Haan, Kaliyev (upper-body)
IR: Edström (lower-body)

The above is not set in stone. Sam Carrick is back after the birth of his child, congratulations, and will be in the lineup. Matt Rempe injured Wednesday, possibly in the fight with tanner Jeannot, is listed as week-to-week and could miss the remainder of the regular season. Nicolas Aube-Kubel, who is a bit of a journeyman but brings a physical presence, replaces Rempe a bit in that regard. But his insertion in the lineup pushes Jusso Parsinnen back to the press box.

On defense, Urho Vaakanainen gets back in the lineup after serving as a healthy scratch for a few games. He replaces Zac Jones, who once again sits. Coach Peter Laviolette is grasping at straws and searching for answers right now, like the rest of us. Igor Shesterkin starts tonight, meaning Jonathan Quick goes tomorrow.

Tonight's game means a reunion with former captain Jacob Trouba, who went to dinner with several of his former teammates last night. Larry Brooks looks at the impact Trouba made by making it clear he did want to be traded this offseason and how that must be a cautionary take this offseason. The underlying is, expect lots of changes prior to September. (Note: I would love to embed the column, but X seemingly won't allow it)

Vince Mercogliano has a good look at Gabe Perreault and Drew Fortescue, who both had an impact on BC's NCAA tourney win today. Perreault notched the first goal while Fortescue added an assist. Moving forward, once the tourney ends, I expect Perreault to sign a contract with the  Rangers and go pro while Fortescue would benefit from another year in school.
