Last April, the PWHPA held a showcase in Montreal at the former Auditorium de Verdun now named Centre 21.02. As they were all involved in an Olympic cycle, the biggest names of the women’s game weren’t playing, but they did come to both speak to the media and offer fans a chance to get their autographs. 6 months later, with the Olympics and the World Championships in the rear-view mirror, there’s another event and the very best players in the game will be featured.

There will be 4 games this weekend which means each team will be playing a couple of matches. On Saturday, Team Scotiabank (featuring Melodie Daoust, Brigitte Lacquette, Ella Shelton, Natalie Spooner, Alex Carpenter and Emerance Maschmeyer) will take on Team Sonnet (featuring Brianne Jenner, Hilary Knight, Erin Ambrose and Micah Zandee-Hart) at 13:30 while Team Adidas (featuring Meaghan Mikkelson, Sarah Nurse, Kendall Coyne-Schofield, Amanda Kessell and Laura Stacey) will cross paths with Team Harvey’s (featuring Marie-Philip Poulin, Ann-Renee Desbiens, Jamie Lee Rattray, Jessie Eldridge and Emily Clark) at 16:00. The Centre 21.02 has also confirmed that there will be a signing session with certain players after the games.

On Sunday, there will be another couple of duels featuring the cream of the crop of women’s hockey. You can get tickets here . For 28,75$, you’ll get a one-day ticket for 2 games, youth tickets are priced at 11,50$. Hopefully, fans are in attendance to cheer on the ladies and show their support to the cause. While the Premier Hockey Federation has announced an expansion this season which will see the Montreal Force enter the fold, this is not the kind of league the Olympians are after. The facts that none of them want to play in that league and that the Centre 21.02 will not be the Force’s home arena as they’ll play games in various arenas in Quebec during the season are quite telling. The truth of the matter is, it’s impossible to make a living playing in that circuit and be able to plan for their after career.

For some time now there has been rumors of a new league which would be backed by an investors group including tennis great Billie Jean King, but September has come and gone, and nothing has been officially announced yet. So please, if you are around this weekend, go down to Centre 21.02 and enjoy the very best of the women’s game while supporting a worthy cause.
