My Takeaways:

The Injury riddled Caps lost in regulation to a Detroit team on the up and up. The game was a toss up and the Caps played well but not well enough to secure the win. The Caps are absolutely decimated and to be honest, my hopes for a playoff season are slowly dwindling away. Wilson, Backstrom, Oshie, Carlson, Hagelin, and Brown are all out. If there is a year to “suck”, this is the year they say. I think we are far from it but crazier things have happened.

Today we are talking about Ovechkin because he is the freakin man! Last night, Ovechkin scored his 786th career goal and tied Gordie Howe for most goals with one franchise in NHL history. Here is the goal:

Here is a graphic of the leaders in goals with one franchise:

Ovechkin is breaking records and accolades every other night. He is on pace for about 40-goals this season. I would consider his start to the year somewhat slow by his standards. He is always due for a hot streak where he scores 10-goals over the span of 10 games or something. Sprinkle in a hat-trick or two. Ovechkin is 11th in the league in shots and has a shooting percentage of 13.0.

The goal last night by Ovechkin was also his 400th career goal he has scored on the road. He now trails Gretzky by only two goals to tie him for most goals in NHL history on the road.

Another stat for ya - Last night was Ovechkin’s first goal ever scored on Villie Husso. Husso is the 161st goaltender Ovechkin has scored on in his career. This ranks 4th in NHL history behind Jagr (178), Marleau (177), and Messier (164). Go Ovi Go

So where does Ovechkin finish this season? I say he ends the season with 42 goals total. That lands him exactly at 822 career goals and at that point he would only trail Gretzky by 72 goals...think about how close he is getting!
That is all for today…Caps lose but Ovechkin scored so did the Caps really lose?
