earlier today Detroit signed Antti Tuomisto. Likely to be GR bound, but the right side is open if someone wants to grab a spot in Detroit.

Game Summary:

Well, all the good will Detroit had after the all star break is gone. There are shifts where it looks like the team has no idea what to do. I’m not sure if that’s a change in chemistry, regardless it’s tough to watch. Especially seeing Z up in the press box. You’ve now got Yzerman, Lidstrom and Zetterberg, the past 3 captains, all watching every game. I’m sure that’s not fun to think about with the recent run.

I honestly don’t know what to say at this point. This looks like a team that is completely deflated at times. Yes, I predicted them missing the playoffs. That doesn’t make it fun to watch. I’d rather be wrong. I think Hronek and Bertuzzi are missed more than just on the ice (though Bert had a lot of time on IR). Raymond just doesn’t look like the same player as he was last year. Seider is still making good plays at times, but has also had some issues.

Today, 1 of 300 CVS stores for this year closed its doors in Highland. I had good friends that worked there. Some of them still don’t have a new assignment. The mood in that store is a bit like the mood on the ice. We’re going to see some turnover in the offseason, hope to get some lotto luck, and come back at it. My guess is that the three former captains are talking about what they’re seeing.

Probably the highlight of the night was watching Tkachuk try to get in Edvinsson’s face and man is that kid tall. It’s exciting to see that there are prospects coming. Denver is still playing and we have a few kids over there. Good things are on the horizon, right now we’re just getting out of the “murder swamp” from “Never Ending Story”. (They actually made an action figure of that horse drowning in the mud. No wonder my friends and I were all depressed).

Let me know your thoughts, and what you’d like to see as things get wrapped up.

First period Detroit goals:

Florida opened the scoring at 7:28 after an egregious turn over by Raymond to Reinhart who found Tkachuk wide open in front of the net. 1-0 FLA

Florida scored again as a puck was deflected in at 12:28. LaLonde decided to challenge and it was a losing effort that put Florida on the power play. This, oddly enough, led to Detroit’s first goal. 2-0 FLA

As the power play expired, Perron skated in and tried to tuck the puck in on the left side. Pius Suter managed to get a stick on the puck with Bobrovski sprawled out in front. 2-1 FLA

Shots: 9-5 FLA
Score: 2-1 FLA

Second Period Detroit goals:

No second period Detroit goals
At 11:33 FLA scored again. 3-1 FLA

Shots: 12-10 Detroit
Score: 3-1 FLA

Third Period Detroit goals:

Larkin scored his 26th of the season at 7:53. The Captain had been tripped up and the play continued on a delayed call. Larkin set up on the goal line next to the net, took a pass from Raymond and sent a sharp angle shot in to make it a one shot game. Copp w/secondary assist. 3-2 FLA

Panthers regain 2 goal lead as a 2 on 0 sees Staal cash in and return the 2 goal lead. 4-2 FLA

Panthers score on a late power play. 5-2 power play

Shots: 25-22 FLA
Score: 5-2 FLA
