The Columbus Blue Jackets have two players representing their native countries in this spring’s 2023 World Hockey Championships.

Forward Alexandre Texier of France and defenseman Tim Berni of Switzerland will be participating for their homes.

Former Blue Jacket prospect Calvin Thurkauf is with Berni in Switzerland.

Patrik Laine was going to represent his native Finland, but is still not medically cleared to compete.

King Clancy Nominee

Defenseman Zach Werenski is the Columbus Blue Jackets’ selection for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy for the 2022-2023 season.

The King Clancy Trophy exemplifies humanitarian contributions and leadership on and off the ice.

The Clancy was one once by a Blue Jackets’ player, and it was Nick Foligno when he was captain.

Werenski only played in 13 games this season, and had three goals and five assists. He has done a lot of inner city work with charity and children.

He is absolutely the right choice by the organization.

CBJ Player Profile - Jake Christiansen

Next on the list is left handed defenseman Jake Christiansen. The left hand shooting defenseman is a Vancouver, British Columbia native.

Christiansen is an Everett Silvertips’ product. He played five years with them, before a tryout came calling to the AHL for the overager.

He averaged around a half a point a game in his Western Hockey League career.

In a nine game tryout with the Stockton Heat of the AHL, he was pointless.

After his release, the Columbus Blue Jackets signed him to an entry level contract.

The defender had 15 points in 28 games in his inaugural season with Cleveland.

During his sophomore season, Christainsen split between Columbus and Cleveland. He had 45 points in 62 games; and one goal in eight NHL games with the Blue Jackets.

This past season, he had 34 points in 50 games with the Monsters, and 4 assists in 24 Columbus games.

He is a good 8/9 depth guy on the roster to throw in when there is a pinch, but long term, difficult. Thought he was going to wind up where Tim Berni was when all the injured occurred.

At 23, he will not be 24 until the preseason begins. He has time to grow and compete for the top Cleveland spot or be the healthy scratch with Columbus for the 2023-2024 season.
