We might have another candidate entering the field for the Penguins front office. The recently dismissed Kyle Dubas is on the Penguins radar.

As of right now things are just speculation. I don’t doubt the speculation, but there is nothing official to report as of yet. Technically, Dubas’ contract doesn’t run out until next month so he is technically still part of the Maple Leafs. Considering they are parting ways I can only imagine asking for permission is just a formality. Things might have gotten dicey at the end there with Shanahan and Dubas, but I can’t imagine Toronto blocking him from taking an interview for other positions.

The next question is if Dubas wants to take an interview. He sounded like it was Maple Leafs or bust earlier last week. That was when he felt like his destiny was in his hands. The Leafs took that away when they elected to part ways later in the week. I think the way things played out might be a motivating factor in Dubas being open to working for another organization sooner than perhaps he let on before.

Dubas checks a lot of boxes for the Fenway Sports Group. I think he is pretty darn close to a best-case scenario given the candidates out there.
