The Vancouver Canucks are showing the NHL that they are the real deal this season. Over their first 13 games, they have an impressive 10-2-1 record and are second in the Pacific Division.

Due to their early-season success, the Canucks have been working the phones. As a result of this, let's start a weekly series discussing players around the league who could be strong fits for the Canucks. In this first edition, Calgary Flames defenceman Chris Tanev is the topic of discussion.

Tanev is a very familiar face to the Canucks, as he, of course, spent his first 10 seasons with the organization before joining the Flames after the 2020-21 campaign. However, fast forward to 2023-24, and a reunion with the veteran d-man could be in the cards for the Canucks.

The Canucks have been connected to Tanev this season, and it makes sense. Their biggest need right now is to add a right-shot defenseman who can handle playing top-four minutes, and Tanev can do just that. With that, he is known for his steady play, and the Canucks could use certainly use that again.

There is a good chance that the Flames will actively shop Tanev this campaign, too. The Flames have started the season poorly, as they have a 4-7-1 record. If they are unable to turn things around quickly, they will be sellers at the deadline, and Tanev would be a prime trade candidate. This is because he is in the final season of his contract.

The thought of a reunion with Tanev is a fun one, at least to me. How would you feel if the Canucks brought back the Toronto native? Share your thoughts in the comments!
