Wennberg Healthy Scratched For Trade Related Reasons

The trade deadline looms close and Seattle is making a roster move tonight in preparation for what could be an eventful few days for the organization. Today we found out that Alex Wennberg will not play tonight for "trade related reasons." As of the time of writing this, no specific deal has been made available to the public so this could be precautionary or GM Ron Francis may have a tentative deal in place.

The 29 year old Wennberg is in the last year of a deal which is worth 4.5 million AAV. Wennberg has always been a solid two way centreman but has not come close to replicating his career high 59 point season he had way back in 16/17. Wennberg has been a good soldier for the Kraken but at best this is a player who should be on a third line and Seattle already has an excellent third line option in Gourde.

As far as a tentative trade, we know teams like the Bruins have need for centre depth and there has been a premium placed upon the centre position this year with players like Sean Monahan, a strong third line and alright second line player getting a 1st round pick for their services. If Seattle is retaining salary hopefully they can get a similar haul for Wennberg.

Seattle is certainly going to be a seller and over the next 48 hours there could be a few players moving out. I will update this blog later today if a deal comes to fruition.

Thanks for reading!
