Leafs 2022 Draftee Update

Throughout the season, we will check in on the Toronto Maple Leafs prospects to see how they are progressing. The 2022 Draft saw Toronto trade their first-round pick to get out from under the Petr Mrazek contract, but it appears the club selected a number of players with some promise.

Here is how the other players selected in the 2022 Draft are doing:

Fraser Minten - C (Kamloops Blazers - WHL)



Minten surprised many with an excellent showing at Leafs camp, making the club, and playing four NHL games before being sent back to his junior club. The 19-year-old was named captain of the Blazers once he was sent down and had 10 points (3 goal, 7 assists) in seven games before being dealt to the Saskatoon Blades to play with fellow 2022 Leafs pick Brandon Lisowsky.

Minten was also named Team Canada’s team captain for the 2024 IIHF World Junior in Sweden, where he scored three points (1 goal, 2 assists) in five games. Since joining the first place Blades, he has 36 points (18 goals, 18 assists) in 34 game, who are looking to make a run at the Memorial Cup.




Nicholas Moldenhauer – F – Michigan (NCAA)



The Mississauga native had a remarkable final season with the Chicago Steel (75 points – 30 goals, 45 assists) and in his freshman year at the University of Michigan, Moldenhauer has 20 points (8 goals, 12 assists) in 37 games.




Dennis Hildeby – G (Toronto – AHL)



The 22-year-old has had a renaissance since undergoing hip surgery before being selected in Montreal in 2022. After a solid season in the SHL with Farjestads, Hildeby joined the Marlies late last season, and this season has been excellent in his rookie AHL campaign as their primary starter, with a 16-9-6 record, a 2.51 GAA and .907 save percentage.




Nikita Grebenkin – RW (Magnitogorsk – KHL)



The early indicators appear that the Leafs may have struck gold. Toronto selected Grebenkin as a 19-year-old and after being loaned to a lower-level KHL club last season, the winger has busted out with first place Magnitogorsk this season, with 19 goals and 22 assists in 67 games playing on the top line.




Brandon Lisowsky – LW (Saskatoon – WHL)



The 19-year-old is only 5’9”, 179 lb. winger has plenty of skill, and performed well at Leafs training camps since being drafted, but will need to be signed to an ELC this spring or will go back into the draft. After scoring 38 goals and 71 points last season, Lisowsky set a career-high scoring 40 goals for the Blades in 66 games.
