I had to wait to see what happened on a more than arduous road trip with still one game remaining, to even consider having anything to say. Yes, if they gave us the George Bush “shock and awe”, my fingers would have been on fire. What am I supposed to do? Write short excerpts about Peterka being on the first line? Have a feel-good moment about Skinner producing a hat trick? Talk about how they all made Benson pay for an extravagant dinner? Levi playing solid with no support?
What I am going to say is that our big-time players have let us down in the most important moments. Situations that count when you are chasing the playoffs up hill. With rest after a home stand, the Sabres went into Detroit and laid an egg that didn’t even make it to Easter.
I love Rasmus and new acquisition Byrum, but what are they doing on this play?
Ficher’s first goal in 42 games at a crucial time. Tuch and Thompson looking lazy and lost. First contest on a five-game vacation with your buddies away from your family or girlfriends. Obviously not enough underwear packed, because they just keet on soiling themselves.
I had wanted so badly to be humbling my criticism with a script of a magnificent crusade. Of a team and a town beating the odds and confusing the critics. I knew it was a long shot, but I am eternally an optimist. I saw the games at home where they were finally imposing their will, and backing each other up. I saw more continuity through four lines. I saw a glimmer of hope, I wanted to believe in the Cinderella story out of nowhere…
What we got was absolutely nothing. We got to stay up late after the Red Wings roasted us at noon, to watch a squad that wasn’t prepared for the challenge. Oh boy, Phil McKracken, we finally beat Seattle. Losing three out of four is not what the doctor ordered. This is what us loyal fans got for our invested passion and time. Thank you god for Chevy to make us laugh about the situation.
Enough about our primetime heroes of the past, let’s move on to our primetime zeroes. Can we wake up from this nightmare Freddy?
Sunday Night Live continues where Lanny McDonald rocked a mustache.
Game 71

Sunday, March 24th at 9:00 pm
The Omni Coliseum, Calgary, AB
We will see what non-playoff team is ready to play some hockey. Can we go on an eleven-game winning streak? Will the swords conquer the flames of peril? Is this group of players and coaching staff going to wake up in early September and realize that games in the beginning of the season count? We have a long road ahead of us to sort it all out, regardless of Rob Ray telling us that Matty Ellis has the solution between every frigging period.
Notes from rooting for Rochester and hoping Sabretooth can entertain us during the last six games at the KeyBank Center.
I know that UPL has established himself and has been on a tear, but don’t count out number 27. He showed up well in an overmatched contest in Vancouver. The kid can play. Better defense since the beginning of the calendar year, and consistent time in the crease is a recipe for success no matter who is between the pipes. These two guys are not that far apart.
Calling Peyton Krebs.. You have been given a glorious opportunity for a significant role on this team with the subtraction of Mittelstadt. Frankly, we are not seeing much, besides some physical play here and there. Three goals and eleven assists on the year. Some guys can get more points off their keester. We need more. Casey has five points in six games and is a plus seven by the way.
