Quick Hits: May 6, 2024

1) On this week's "Mondays with Meltzer" edition of Flyers Daily, Jason Myrtetetus take stock of the forwards on the team: What are the team's biggest needs up front, who should be slotted where, how should Joel Farabee's 2023-24 season be assessed, is Scott Laughton better off on a wing or at center, will Noah Cates remain in left wing, the chemistry of Owen Tippett with Morgan Frost, and more. Jason also continues his series of profiles of Flyers Hometown Assist recipients with a profile of the Pet Friendly Dog Bakery.

2) Trailing their best-of-five Atlantic Division semifinal series against the Hershey Bears, two games to zero, the Phantoms will hold a practice on Monday. Game 3 is Wednesday night at the PPL Center in Allentown. The Phantoms actually outchanced Hershey in Game 2 on Saturday but nevertheless fell by a 5-1 score.

A quick 2-0 deficit in the first period on a pair of goals by Ethen Frank set the tone for the rest of the night. Hunter McDonald tallied the lone Phantoms' goal. With Lehigh Valley trailing 4-1 in the third period, Bobby Brink was unsuccessful on a third period penalty shot attempt against Hunter Shepard (30 saves on 31 shots). Cal Petersen saw just 15 shots for the game, allowing four goals. The final Hershey tally was on Wednesday.

3) Flyers prospects Oliver Bonk (London Knights, OHL), Denver Barkey (London) and Alexis Gendron (Drummondville Voltigeurs, QMJHL) will all play in the playoff championship round of their respective CHL leagues. Carter Sotheran (Portland Winterhawks, WHL) will reach the Western League Final if his team prevails either in Game 6 (Monday) or, if necessary, in Game 7 of their series against the Prince Cougars. Later today on PhiladelphiaFlyers.com, I will discuss more in-depth how each of these four players have fared in the playoffs and how much each has progressed this season.

4) Also today on the Flyers' official website: a preview of the NHL Draft Lottery from a Flyers' point of view. For more, click here.
