The Toronto Maple Leafs were expected to make more changes to their coaching staff under new head coach Craig Berube. Earlier this month the Leafs added former New York Islanders head coach Lane Lambert as an associate coach and announced that assistant coach Dean Chynoweth would not be returning.

On Saturday, the club announced that assistant coach Guy Boucher would not be returning. The former Tampa Bay and Ottawa head coach was brought in by Sheldon Keefe to replace Spencer Carbery after he took the head coaching job in Washington, taking over Carbery’s responsibilities coaching the Toronto power play.

The results on the man advantage were excellent early on, as Toronto had the second-best power play in the NHL (28.4%) from October to the beginning of March, but from that point till the end of the season, the Leafs ranked 29th (12.5%) and then went 1 for 21 in the seven-game first-round loss to Boston.

It is expected that assistant Mike Van Ryn will be staying on along with Lambert on Berube’s staff, but there are expected to be more additions made in the coming weeks.

The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun also reported that the Leafs and assistant GM Laurence Gilman are parting ways. The long-time hockey executive joined the Leafs in 2018 when Kyle Dubas took over as GM after 15 years in various management positions with Arizona and Vancouver and his contract was set to expire at the end of the month.
