For the first time since 2019, the New York Islanders made a selection in the first round of the NHL Draft this year.

With the 20th overall pick, the Islanders selected forward Cole Eiserman.

Eiserman posted outstanding goal totals with the U.S. National Team Development Program, scoring 58 goals and 89 points in 57 games. He was also projected to go a little earlier in the draft, so him slipping to New York at 20th is a big win, especially considering the Islanders moved back from the 18th pick prior to the draft.

In terms of filling a need, this is a perfect fit for the Islanders on paper. New York has been in desperate need of scoring help, and that’s exactly what Eiserman can provide.

New York has five more picks for Day 2 of the draft tomorrow, including two second-round picks.
