The first and second floors of the house sustained major damage, and smoke filled the third floor. The blaze was under control and extinguished in less than one hour.

Thankfully, no one was significantly injured. Travis Konecny, his wife Karly and young sons Rhett and Beau were not home at the time. Two firefighters sustained minor burns per NBC10 Philadelphia but did not require treatment or hospitalization.

3) August 25 Flyers Alumni birthdays: Greg Paslawski (1961), Nick Schultz (1982), Dave Tippett : (1961).

4) Today in Flyers History: August 25

1992: The Flyers sign right winger Greg Paslawski (on his 31st birthday) and defenseman Gord Hynes as free agents.

1997: Due to chronic and degenerate arthritis in his left hip, Hockey Hall of Fame center/winger Dale Hawerchuk announces his retirement at 34. Hawerchuk spent the final season and a quarter of his phenomenal NHL career as a member of the Flyers.

After coming over to the Flyers in a one-for-one trade with St. Louis for fellow veteran center Craig MacTavish, Hawerchuk still had enough left in the tank to post 20 points (4g, 16a) in 16 games late in the 1995-96 regular season. He added nine points (3g, 9a) in 12 playoff games.

In 1996-97, he had the opportunity to reach the Stanley Cup Final for the first and only time of his NHL career. He also represented the Flyers in the 1996-97 NHL All-Star Game, although his hip issue slowed him down considerably by this point and caused him difficulty in playing. Rest, medication and rehab failed, and surgery would not have helped. Consequently, he was forced to retire in the summer rather than attempting another season.

Hawerchuk, nicknamed Ducky, was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2001. After a prolonged battle with stomach cancer that saw him complete chemotherapy, he passed away on August 18, 2020, at the age of 57.

2021: The Flyers sign unrestricted free agent veteran forward Derrick Brassard to a one-year contract. When healthy, he serves the Flyers well during the 2021-22 season but misses long stretches with injury issues. On On March 21, 2022, the Flyers trade Brassard to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for a fourth-round selection (Alex Ciernik) in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.
