Coming off a 4-3 road win in Nashville to start the 2024-25 regular season, Pete DeBoer's Dallas Stars (1-0-0) will have their home opener on Saturday against Patrick Roy's New York Islanders (0-0-1). Game time at American Airlines Center is 7:00 p.m. CDT.

The Stars' opening win was far from pristine but the team generated several nice goals in trailer rushes. They'll look to cut down on the number of turnovers from the opening game against the Predators and improve both their small-area game and faceoff performance.

In the opener, Mason Marchment notched a pair of goal for Dallas, while Roope Hintz and Jason Robertson also scored. Rookie Logan Stankoven collected three assists as Dallas struck for four goals in the middle frame. Goalie Jake Oettinger looked sharp in stopping 33 of 36 shots.

The Stars were a little too prone to avoidable penalties in the opener but the PK stepped up to go 5-for-6. The Dallas power play was 1-for-4 with Marchment finding the net.

New York enters this game coming off a 5-4 overtime loss to Utah Hockey Club on Thursday. The Islanders held leads of 1-0. 3-2, and 4-3 but were unable to protect or build upon any. Anthony Duclair (power play), Maxim Tsyplakov, Bo Horvat and JG Pageau (shorthanded) scored for New York. The penalty kill went 0-for-2, but the Pageau shorthander offset one of the Utah goals. The Islanders power play was 1-for-6.
