The Winnipeg Jets had a rare off night last night in their 4-1 defeat to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Eric Comrie sustained his first loss of the season.

First Period:

The Jets came out very flat in the first period. They didn't generate many quality chances. They turned the puck over on a 4 on 2 rush that went the other way and resulted in a goal by Jake Guentzel. The period would end with the Lightning up 1-0.

Second Period:

The Lightning came out more aggressive in the 2nd period and goals by Brandon Hagel and then Anthony Cirelli on the PP gave the Lightning a commanding 3-0 lead. Adam Lowry deflected a Colin Miller shot past Andrei Vasilevskiy to get the Jets on the board. The second period ended with the Lightning ahead 3-1.

Third Period:

The only scoring in the 3rd period was an empty net goal by Guentzel. Although they played better in the 3rd period, the Jets could not get any more pucks past Vasilevskiy. The final score was 4-1 for the Lightning.

Some takeaways from the game:

This loss snapped the Jets' eight-game winning streak. Their record is now 15-2-0 on the season. Still tops in the league, for now.

The Jets lethal PP was also held off the scoresheet. Haven't seen that happen much so far into the season. The Lightning PK did put heavy pressure on whoever had the puck on the Jets PP. That may be something other teams try to mimic in future games.

The Jets road trip continues tomorrow night in Miami against Paul Maurice and the Stanley Cup Champions, the Florida Panthers.
