First things first, welcome back! For the past 10 days I’ve done what I could to do game summaries on youtube for my new channel “Strings and Pucks”. There will be more coming in the new year, so like and subscribe if you can!

As I watched the opening period tonight, Detroit was skating well. They weren’t generating chances, but seemed to be matching the pace of St. Louis. Then, that 17 second goal in the second seemed to derail the entire team. If the team is low on smelling salts just put in an order and be ready for every period. The team just seemed to implode with that shot.

Wings fans are starting to get trolled a bit online with fake rumors from parody accounts. It’s effective because things are a mess right now. The boos started subtly tonight, but may not be so subtle if things keep heading in this direction.

All of you that stop by have been through the bad signings and departures and what seems to be a general apathy that hits the team and the fans both. Detroit has painted itself into a bit of a no win situation. At this point you don’t really want to give up draft picks, but there’s no real way to move some of the dead weight without a sweetener.

More than turning the position in the standings, the team just seems to be broken. Players aren’t on the same page as pucks are continually turned over, passes missed and opportunities squandered. The factions of “let it tank” and “show some sign of trying to move forward” are already speaking up. It’s a sad step in the wrong direction.

The pairings and line combinations just seem to be off. There are some thoughts on the game and the two organizations in the video above. Let me know your thoughts and where you want this team to end up this year. It feels like something is going to be “tweaked” after the freeze is up, but a lot more than a tweak is needed.
