Eklund on Flyers: Flyers and Sixers working on new arena? Why?

As many of you may know, the Wells Fargo Center is not that old. I attended concerts at the stadium that sat in the same exact place as that arena, JFK Stadium, and remember being there for the opening of the Wells Fargo Center.

I’ve been to almost every stadium in the NHL, except Vegas and Seattle, and the Wells Fargo Center still is in great shape and has all that is needed to run a modern-day franchise. In fact, they just put 400 million dollars in renovations into the arena this past year.

The 76ers have been talking about moving downtown for a long time, and that fell apart last week apparently when the Flyers agreed to build a new arena with them on part of the parking lot for the Phillies stadium.

Maybe Commcast needs a write-off?

I just don’t get this waste of money. There are many super boxes in the arena that aren’t used now, and are sold off in parts to non business fans.

There will be no public money used, which is good, and I guess Comcast can spend their money on whatever they want to spend it on, but perhaps hiring many more and better customer service would be an idea.

What are your thoughts?
