Gibby on the Leafs. First Place After Win. |

Well it's spring. It sure felt like that weather wise on Wednesday. I wore shorts and sandals, it was glorious.
The Leafs came up most triumphant at home against Colorado, thanks in part to referee Kelly Sutherland setting up Steve Lorentz for the shorthanded game winner, so Benoit to Sutherland to Lorentz, scores. Lorentz has 6 goals on the season, 3 of them have been game winners. The two points allowed the Leafs to tie Florida for first in the Atlantic in points and in games played. Panthers hold the tie-breaker however as they have more regulation wins.
Toronto has won 2 in row, 4/4 on the power play. They've allowed just 3 goals in the two games.
Woll was outstanding, he kept the Leafs in the game when it was scoreless at the end of the first period, Toronto being outshot 13-5. He stopped 38 of 39 shots, and somehow he was only the second star. I had him as first start in my notebook. Going into Wednesday, Colorado is the only team Woll had never played against.
Nylander's point streak came to an end on Wednesday, but that's OK, Leafs won and he can start a new streak against the Rangers. Toronto and the Blue Shirts have split two games this season, Leafs winning at MSG on the last day of February.
Rangers have lost 2 straight games, both at home, scoring 1 goal in each game.Overall the New Yorkers are 0-3-1 in their last 4 home games, 0/12 on PP.
Because of the skid, last season's Presidents' Trophy winner are on the outside looking in at the playoffs. They are 1 point behind the Habs for WC2, but the Canadiens have 2 games in hand. Montreal is also in New York Thursday night as they visit the Islanders.
Maybe them and the Leafs can get together for a post game meal.
I will breakdown Leafs/Rangers on Friday morning and a preview of the buds at Predators Saturday night.
